Why people put crosses to The Hill of Crosses?



There are several reasons why people bring their crosses to the Hill of Crosses. First of all, there is a legend according to which everyone who puts his/her cross on the hill will protect himself/herself and his/her family, become lucky and healthy, escape evil, etc. Also putting a cross on the Hill of Crosses shows faithfulness and trust to Christ. This is an expression of a religiousness of the people, so thousands of them come here and put crosses with their own notes (with wishes, hopes, requests, blessings, etc.).

I didn't explore the site, or read any further than the above quote, but my first reaction was that they're making the Cross of Jesus Christ, where my Savior bled and died for me (but who rose again and lives forever!) out to be nothing more than a good luck charm.
