thank you for the reminder. because of this thread I made an order from American Tract Society for "How to Become a Christian" (http://www.atsdirect.org/epages/atsdirect.sf/4a55e7f5064e0e382717ac10035705f2/Product/View/30821) written by Billy Graham. It looks like a good one with John 3:16, portions of "the Romans road" and other Scriptures. Billy Graham did have a gift to present the Gospel clearly.

One of my favorite stories is "The Matchless Pearl (http://www.mwtb.org/pages/display.php?id=200040)" -- have you'all seen it? It's a good one ...

thanks again for encouraging us / me :) to renew a commitment to place tracts along the way ...

You're very welcome. I haven't seen the story yet. I will read it in a bit. Thanks.

Livingwaters.com has some awesome tracts and also CustomTractSource.com

They have million dollar bills and many other good ones. I like to hand them out and then ask people if they think a million dollars will buy your way into heaven. Then move the conversation to the gospel.

I like both of those sites to order tracts from.

Halloween Outreach offers tracts to put candy on and pass out to trick-or-treaters. In other words, they encourage Christians to actively counteract the occult influence of Halloween rather than just turn their lights out and not participate at all:

One of the co-founders said, "We don’t feel like we are condoning the holiday. We don’t feel like we are partaking in the occult practices. We’re saying no, let’s use this day for good. What Satan meant for harm God is going to use for good. Let’s redeem this day. Let’s see the church redeem this day."

Will they give each person several thousand tracts to distribute if they ask for them. :thinking

May I ask you a question? How much is a soul worth to you?

The money donated to a place distributing tracts, and where I obtain my tracts it is on a donation basis since they don't feel they should sell God's Words to save souls, gives that place more money to print more tracts to put into the missionary field so to speak. In other words, the money goes to print more tracts no matter if the tracts are sold or the place accepts donations.

I distribute a large number of tracts and I don't feel that I should put that burden on the Church.

Part of it is choice. Tract racks aren't available everywhere (or even most wheres), and you have to use what's available. If it's not available at all, then you have to buy from somewhere. Honestly the only church I've ever seen with a tract rack was a little bitty one out near a rest stop on a highway somewhere(found it (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/10723), just off rest stop property in a corn field separated from both by a fence), but now that you mention it, it's a *great* idea for any church. :nod

Part of it is the different purpose a tract rack plays. It's there to encourage many people to grab a few or even a handful of tracts and go pass them out that week. On the other hand, people who are ordering direct many times are buying hundreds or even thousands of tracts at a time to use over several months or longer (or possibly all at once at an event). That could put a serious hurt on a tract rack, and their grabbing that many would mean the tracts wouldn't be available for others to grab as well.

Also, similar to what others have said: *Someone* has to pay for the tracts, whether the ministry pays for them via donations or individuals pay for them as they purchase them (or both). As we (the people above) have the ability right now to pay for them ourselves, we do so. This lets any donations to those ministries go to other things, such as providing tracts for other people who can't afford them.

At the same time though, some so called Christian book stores charge a huge markup on tracts to take advantage of people. This is why many buy tracts directly from certain ministries in bulk orders. It's far cheaper to buy 100 at .15 each ($15.00) than go into a store and buy 100 at .50 each ($50.00). That's a bit simplified of course, and there's a whole level of economics between ministries and publishers that covers the finer details (big ministries with *massive* orders, aka Chick, can publish larger tracts for less cost than smaller ministries can, and likely also plays into why all Chick tracks are built as identical booklets with different printing). That also plays into why, what and where we buy.

Heh, and finally, it's as much personal as it is practical. :)

As for tracts I like, I buy most of mine from Living Waters (http://www.livingwaters.com/) and Chick (http://www.chick.com/default.asp).

There are many good ones at both sites :nod

My kids love chick tracts too. I often find them sitting on the couch reading them. We passed them out at Halloween, and the other day we took them to Walmart and they tucked them all over the place--a pair of shoes, an empty fruit bin. Just last night, Katie prayed that they would be read and understood by people who need to know Jesus. I have a bunch, and I need to be more faithful about distributing them! I live in a Catholic town, and I probably need to be passing out some "Why is Mary Crying?" tracts.
