I have a question for all the Dish or Satellite folks here - what do you do for high-speed internet?

I'm curious because I've been happy with Cable, both on the TV end and especially the high-speed internet end. I know I could save a few bucks a month if I go to Dish, but with Cable I have TV, phone, and internet and they all work great with no problems.

However, I would be willing to consider a Dish, but I don't know what I'd do then for internet or even phone? What do you folks do for that? Do you just pay Verizon for regular landline phone? Do you use DSL or dial-up? Is there high-speed internet available through Dish or Satellite??

We have dish and use DSL. No complaints either way. We have had both Dish Network and DirectTV, and have had no problems with either. We had cable and hated it. The cable went out much more often than the short rain obtrusions.

The only thing with Dish is that you have to be able to direct the dish towards the sattelite. This can be a problem if your condo faces the wrong direction. I believe in our area it has to have an unobstructed southeast view.

I have a Verizon land line, Verizon DSL and Direct TV all packaged together.

Great thread...I have wanted to change too, try "modding" on Di.a...l..u.p. :) Cable has gotten so expensive and I don't watch the news anymore and my son watches cartoons...for $70 a month? I would like a package that combined my internet and TV but don't know how to go either. I'd keep my phone for a land line, I don't use it much anyway, since I am online so much, people know to email to get ahold of me or call the cell in an emergency.

Lisa, you are in the same "area" as I am, let me know how you go.

PS...Does satelite TV (which ones) get INSP?

I was concerned about the unobstructed view issue. Our front door is actually in a landscaped atrium with 2 floors above me, but a view to the sky. I didn't think we could do it at all until I noticed my next door neighbor with a DirecTV dish on her patio wall, with the dish facing southeast-ish. So I'm thinking we can pull it off. *crosses fingers and toes*

BNL, I'll certainly let you know how it goes. :nod

We have Dish, the only problem I have ever had, happened a few months a go. My DH & DD1, went to the movies to see the new Pirates movie, DD2 & I were home. So I decided to order a movie for her to watch that she wanted to see. I, put in our code to unlock the adult guide block, went through the process to order the movie. Only not to get it on for a few seconds before it kicked off. After trying a few more times with the same results, I called Dish four times. Only to get hang up on twice told another it would be on in 20 minutes, only nothing happened. I called Dish the last time & told them that I did not want to be charged for something I never received & that if they took our money ( we have automatic billing set up with them) that we would drop them & go to Direct & that I would let people know that stole money from us. The next month I got the bill & it showed were they had taken the charges off. So I would recommend Dish even though I was hang up twice which I also reported to Dish personnel.

We have Direct TV and love it. Never had any problems with billing or the satellite. If it rains hard, it will disrupt the signal for a bit, but it comes right back on.

The cable we used to have was out, frequently. I was hooked up to the internet through cable, so when it would be out, the tv would be out, as well as the internet. This was during a time that I was taking online classes for work. It was extremely frustrating.

We use the phone line for fast access for internet. The phone service isn't interrupted when I'm on the computer.

After my last experience with cable, I wonder what keeps everyone from ditching their cable and going to satellite.

Ive had the Dish Network for many years.. Ive been real pleased....it storms alot here and the Dish may go out occasionally, but not much...the prices are pretty good...
Im moving this week and am gonna try Verizons new FIOS fiber optic network.. so I can get internet, phone, and HDTV package bundled together....
I have also considerd the Angel One Network as they are christian and have filtered out alot of secular shows...They still have Animal Planet, hgtv and Fox news I believe..

I've heard people mention Angel or Sky Angel before. What is that? A network? A different service?
