My ex is trying to force me to put my 13yo back in public school. We are now in the middle of a huge custody evaluation. The evaluator doesn't believe that homeschoolers are as socialized or get into college as easily as public schoolers. Can you please help me find the research to prove these things. Thanks!

you need to read the book "homeschooling, the right choice by Christopher Klicka. It says it is an academic, historical, practical, and legal persepctive. There is a copy on amazon for $2.60. I had this book years ago and if i recall correctly, it was so good that let the grandparents read it because of the stats in it and I never got it back, but check it out at the library or buy one off amazon. Also, talk to your cover/church school admin because more than likely she has some good stats somewhere because she probably gets questioned all the time. make sure to check with the HSLDA (homeschool legal defense association) too. hope this helps.

I was up until after 2 am searching online. The problem is, most studies were done way back in the early 90s, and some in the early 2000s. Our custody evaluator is not pro homeschooling and she is not a Christian. This battle is really the Lords. But I need credible, recent, scientific research, especially regarding socialization. I found lots of info on the success of academics and lots on getting in to college. But the socialization is old and not really research.. more just articles.

Here are a couple links on Amazon.com - they are for books that cover this topic and seem to be more recent:

Good luck... I hope you're able to continue with what you believe is right for your child!! :)

I highly suggest you contact The Homeschool Legal Defense Association http://www.hslda.org They deal with this sort of thing all the time. If you are a member, and tell them you may lose custody of your daughter because you are homeschooling they will represent you for free.
This was on their website. http://nche.hslda.org/docs/nche/issues/c/custodyresearch.pdf

Oh wow, I will be praying for you as well. I don't know if this will help but I pulled this out of my bookmarks:

There are lots of colleges that are not only home school friendly but are actively seeking such students.
Please keep us posted.

Dr. Leonard Sax has written some great books on children that would lead most people to prefer homeschoolling.
He has done amazing research in his books BOYS ADRIFT and WHY GENDER MATTERS.

Oh, you mean like the highly-cultured and amazingly skilled in the social arts children the public school system cranks out every year? :rolleyes Sorry.... that's one of my pet peeves. Homeschooled children have BETTER social skills than public schooled children because they learn how to relate to more than just their own peer group. When you're shuttled around your whole life having to deal with no one but those your same age and maturity level... well, that's just not socialized.
Definitely check on the Home School Legal Defense resources available to you! :nod
