This question is about witnessing to dh who has grown up in the Catholic religion. I tell him how it is a false religion and he will argue back that the Pope is Catholic and is one of the most recognizable and respected church leaders. How can I respute this?

There are plenty of websites out there that will help you witness to Catholics and explain why certain Catholic doctrines are wrong by giving scriptural reasons. I'm sure many people will give you some of those links.

Just remember to treat him and his beliefs with respect. Also, put yourself in his shoes for a moment. Remember that there are over a billion Catholics in the world, and after adding in the Eastern Orthodox, we evangelical Christians are a pretty small minority. While the size of groups doesn't affect their truth, it does help with perspective.

The world loves him, as he is of the world and they love their own. Darkness will always praise darkness. The catholic church is a fine example of worshipping the religion itself, instead of The Lord.

As a former Catholic, I don't think that there is anything that you can say to him that will change his mind about his religion. My best suggestion is to pray for him. I know that my grandparents prayed for me for many years. I was 28 when I realized that I needed a relationship with Jesus, not a religion.

My dh was raised a catholic, (school k-12, altar boy, etc.) It took years of praying before he started to open his eyes to the truth. Now he is a born again Christian - Praise God! The brainwashing is deep!

When it comes to witnessing to those we are close to i.e. spouses, they normally don't like it when we try to convert them. Often it is something they have to realize on their own, very much similar to "if it's their idea" then they'll do it, but if it's not their idea or are feeling coerced, they are less receptive. It becomes a pride issue, it's extremely common.

The Jack Chick website has some *wonderful* books on refuting catholism. I believe there are even several tracts on it also. I highly encourage you to check it out!

You could read the books just for your own knowledge, so you can be on guard or just leave them lying around. I'm sure your dh is bound to pick one up and look it over at some point.

Even when I leave tracts on my kitchen counter and someone comes over, they somehow always manage to pick it up out of curiousity and read it. That is when I walk over and encourage them to take it home to read more closely!
