The future of the dollar

The dollar today briefly broke the important 80 mark on the dollar index. This article on Bloomberg quotes Merrill Lynch that the Fed will cut interest rates by 25 BPs by October and by a total of 150 BPs by "mid 2008". What will this do to the dollar that is already near critical support levels?

How will other central banks react to thier reserve holdings depreciating so rapidly?

If I had to guess... I would say that I don't think that the dollar has a future at all. Other than my gut, many things are going on that leads me to that conclusion. I think its pretty much out of our hands anyway. The timing decision will be made by China and Japan as to how soon the dollar will be toast.

On a side note, the demise of AHM certainly doesnt help economic matters any. Oh, and did anyone see the recent meltdown of Jim Cramer on Youtube?? Wild Stuff!!

The weakening Dollar is not a sign the dollar can’t fail before the appearance of the antichrist.

Well the Bible doesn't say that the Dollar has to fail as previously said. This is just speculation.

"And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six. "

This doesn't necessarily mean that all money will be gone. We could still have cash money but we might not be able to use it unless you have a special mark. This is just speculation too and both theories are certainly plausible.

I'm just presenting a different scenario to prove that nobody really knows what will happen til it happens.

Oh I'm not disagreeing with you at all. That most certainly could be the case but I also don't see why we still couldn't have cash but you wouldn't be able to use it unless you have a special mark or something.

It's just an alternate theory. I mean, it's no secret the world is moving to a cashless society. So maybe everybody will have cards or something but they won't be able to use it unless they have a mark on their hand or forehead. Kind of like a two way system. One won't work without the other.
