In fact, if the mods want to lock one or both or make them disappear, I'm all for that. Let me push the little police button for you if you haven't done it yet.

Thanks, LisaJo. I was wondering about it because I have read a book recently from someone I think is a reputable author and they think the book of Enoch has some merit. I personally think it is probably not inspired but I do wonder why it was allowed in the Bible for so long. :scratch

Kaia, maybe the mods can merge them. :idunno

The book of Enoch has never been part of the bible.

Yes, Jude quotes Enoch

Jud 1:14 NKJV - Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
Jud 1:15 NKJV - to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."

All ancient writings have some value. But beware that the value is extremely limited and generally of use only to a true scholar of ancient writings and they also should be studied only through the lens of the true scriptures of the bible.

If you fail to excersize caution in reading them they can mislead and confuse you and that is why it is wise to leave them to people who are solidly grounded in scriptural truth. The rest of us would do well to avoid them.

Hmm just seems he mentions Enoch not the "book" of Enoch.

That was my take on it as well. Enoch was a real biblical character but the "book of enoch" is not an accepted part of the bible for many good reasons, not the least of which is the date it is thought to be written on which is way too late to be a part of the bible.

Thanks Mr. Mann, I was looking for the history of Enoch and why it was in the Bible and why it was removed.

It wasn't ever a legitimate part of the scriptures. Even the Hebrews considered it outside of Holy Scripture.

1+2 Macabees has some good fill the gap Jeweish history .................but it's not scripture.

Bel and the Dragon are interesting ideas, but they do not read like the rest of Daniel and the "character" of Daniel seems different.

Prayer of Manessah is a good read........

All in all take them as what you will...added information and not doctorinal.

Judith has enough historical errors to drive a truck through........Tobit has silly potions for repelling spirits using fish guts......

You get my point.

I might add that reading the Aprocrypha books does not really edify.....if you try it...you'll see what I mean. That indicates to me it is not "living".
