Is this what is meant when Jesus asks what good is salt that loses its saltiness?
We're not longer the salt of the earth. I am just as guilty as anyone. When a movie like "the hills have eyes" comes out, with its realistic deptictions of rape and murder, we christians say nothing. All of these movies, like Turista or saw and all the rest, they're poison. When the 16 year olds watching these things grow up we should not wonder why we've raised a generation of evil. We're about to reap what we're sowing.
There are a million examples of things christians should resist, but we don't. Abortion, gay marriage, the removal of all things christian from the public view, the list goes on and on. Are we weary? Has the salt lost its saltiness?

i resist by not participating in watching such movies/games or taking part in such activities
or by saying outright that i am not interested in watching/participating in them if i am asked .
i resist by not teaching my child that abortion is acceptable, that gay marriage is ok, and i send her to a Christian school so she can say the pledge of alliegence with God in it (with no worry about the school wanting to change it) she can bring and read her Bible, and she learns to dress in a way that dosen't expose her to perverts, and dosen't have to compete with friends for 'style' etc.
I don't think i have to be an activist to do things the right way.
Or do i need to be corrected?

No icebear, and I don't watch those kinds of things either, and proper instruction of our kids is hugely important. But I remember a day where if something vile was released as a book or movie the christians would be the ones who picketed and said "NO MORE". Nowadays these movies are released and there's not even a wimper from the elect.
I dunno, I just feel like we're asleep at the switch here.

Every time Christians protest something, the media seems to turn it around and make us out to seem fanatical (or even ridiculous). The more we say, the more they seem to make fun of us.
Remember that movie "Saved"? I never saw it because I could tell from the commercials that it mocked Christianity. I'm not sure how well it did at the box office, but since it disappeared pretty quickly after release, I can imagine that it wasn't exactly a hit. However, if Christians had protested this movie with volume and vehemence then the media would have made it out to be "those crazy right-wing fundamentalists". Maybe more people would have gone to see it just out of curiosity.
I protest the best way I can...by not giving my money to them. And I am quite candid with others as to why I refuse to watch certain movies or TV shows (or listen to certain musicians).
But I also think that at times people have just stopped trying to make a difference.

I think part of the problem is that the filth is being generated so fast that is difficult for Christians to respond to it. It seems every day, more and more disturbing things are being presented to society. I think that by the time Christians began to protest one thing, a multitude of others are released. This is just a sign of the times, and this should give us hope in the imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I have to agree with Icebear, I teach my daughters Christian values and provide the spiritual leadership for my family as directed by the Word.
As salt of the earth, we are to live at a higher standard, directed by the Bible. So I would say yes, we can still be salt on this earth, and live apart from the depravity of the world. We can demonstrate the righteousness we have earned through the blood of Jesus Christ by the way we interact with those who are not saved, and hopefully be the example that leads them to salvation.

The world has gotten to the point where if you do stand up and resist then you will get beaten down and probably lose your job and have your reputation destroyed. Everyone is at home alone, afraid and/or asleep, and that is the way they want it.
Whoever is running our society is doing a great job of controlling dissent.
Even if you wanted to protest, how could one even do it in any meaningful way?
The rights to protest are still there but no one uses them so they will probably be lost eventually and no one will protest that either I bet.

I was unfortunate enough to watch part of the movie "wolf creek" and what I saw really grieved the Spirit in me. Torture for vicarious entertainment. It's not only that the lines are blurred it is that there does not seem to be any lines left. Amazing to think about the trib and that it will be even worse then.

I was just changing channels on the TV (we have Directv) to see what was on....I was shocked to see what I saw. There's a channel called LOGO which is the gay channel, they are very happy gays let me tell you. Then I saw on a women's network a program was on about women who work in the sex industry and what motivates them to do it. I couldn't believe what they showed. It's not even 10pm here! My goodness...
Thank you Jesus when we get to heaven we won't have to see anything offensive ever again!! Can you imagine a place where there is no sin? No gays, nothing perverted, a holy, pure paradise......Wow!! No more sinful things being shoved in our faces.
Lord Jesus please continue to work in me and prepare me for the rapture. I don't want to be like the foolish virgins. I want to be with You!

I have asked this question a couple times on the board...just what evil are we "restraining" anymore as the restrainer??? I don't see us restraining anything personally. (perhaps within ourselves but certainly not in the world)....

If it's any consolation, with regard to "The Hills Have Eyes" :
The kiddie/family films by Pixar, etc. are much more successful, and very often on a grand scale. The best effect with hollywood productions is to see the good ones and avoid the bad ones. That says more than anything else. It took years to get them to put more of the family films out, and now they are doing it. And they are making box-office-sales galore with em. I do think we have done pretty well on that end.
But keep in mind that they will always do the horror thing. Even though it doesn't bring in the kind of cash that the family ones do, they just can't resist that extra dollar from the horror enthusiasts.:rolleyes
