What kind(s) of music do you want to hear in Church? If you were the music minister/pastor/director, what kind of music would you want to have for your Church services?
This thread is for comments and opinions on what music you think should be in a Church service, but feel free to indicate your choice in the following poll:

A good balance of the great old hymns of the faith, and some of the newer, genuine PRAISE numbers by people like Annie Herring, Matt Ward, 3rd Day, Keith Green, Fernando Ortega, Michelle Tumes, and some of Michael J Smith's stuff.
If I were in charge, I would vomit and sentence to 100 lashes with a wet noodle anyone putting my personal pet peeve on,
"I am a friend of God, I am a friend of God, I am a friend of God, ..."
"I I I I " (Man, isn't God lucky? (ick)
I must say, even though I have doubts as to their eternal destination, I'm still hoping that the Lord will allow working a deal to have
the greatest 3 piece band of all time, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, play their adaptation of Mussorgsky's "The Great Gates of Kiev" moments after the Rapture.

Besides the traditional hymns. Casting Crowns, Michael Smith, Michael English, Mark Schultz, Mercy Me.....
I like John Tesh too!!

I wouldn't go that far :)(what's in bold) but I do cringe everytime we sing that song. Two of the three churches we attended while searching for a new church home sang that song.

I need some clarification before I answer the poll. I don't know what some of the categories are. For instance, what is "classical" when referring to Christian music? Plus, I like some contemporary Christian but I don't know where it falls in the poll selections ie some of Selah, Watermark, Michael Smith and what is called Maranatha. What would those be??

Rock. After all, we never really got that in the door when it comes to worship. If I were pastoring a church, I would definitely deliver it classic style, and maybe just a little bit of Hammertime in the mix too. :yeah

I have just recently discovered my love for the great sacred hymns. I love to read the stories behind the hymns. I have a book called "Great Hymn Stories" (if any one is interested I could give a link on where to purchase). When I sing them in Church I think of the writer and the inspiration for the hymn. In our Majesty Hymn book there is always a scripture reference for each song.
These hymns were written in a time when God was truly revered. Not that God is not revered today, but it does seem different, especially when you look at the lyrics of a lot of contemporary Christian music. I still love some contemporary Christian music as long as it is God centered and not man centered. I do try to stay away from Christian Rock, mainly because I can't understand the lyrics. Wow, do I sound old!! When did that happen??:scratch

I went with hymns. I like that, but I also like some contemporary. I think when we get into the hymns, it's good because we don't get into the emotions of the drum beats, etc. But I really like some contemporary music I listen to at home!
