and I removed my sound from my computer?

I was going through my control panel to add/remove programs I never used hoping to clear up some space.

ahem

now I have no sound. The speakers are plugged in and turned on, they worked fine yesterday. I already tried to reinstall the real player thingy, but it said I did not have administrative authority :doh

help?

ok....so, the first thing you've gotta check is your device manager. You can get their by going to the control panel, performance and maintenance, and then system (assuming this is XP). All others it's just system in the control panel.

After the box pops open, click Hardware, then device manager. Another box will pop up. In the device manager look for any question marks or exclamation points. You will probably see one under Sound, video, and game controllers.

If you do, you just need to reinstall the driver. If you don't...well, then you'll probably have to call me and we'll fix it up over the phone or something. This is relatively easy. Just let me know if that is what you see and reply back with your PC make and model and I'll give you a link for the driver. Thanks. Take care and God bless.

Download the driver to a known location on your HD. You can then redirect to that location.

refer to above statement that I'm an idiot (and stop laughing about how I'm merely confirming your previous suspicions :heh)

You aren't the only technical idiot Dana. My dh is a techie and teaches tech classes... he is constantly in awe that I can still do such stupid things to my computer (or ask such stupid questions). I say, "ok, pretend I'm your student, instead of your wife...now explain that to me again." :)
