I agree that there are lots more quakes these days but what makes you believe the monster quake is coming to the west coast?

I can't provide the souce, (can't remember), but it shouldn't be hard to find. The way I get it, these major quakes along the ring, always have gone in a clockwise rotation.
In this last round, it started in Indonesia (?), then went across the sea, then went up the Japan. So the next, according to pattern, would be the west coast.

Well I get that part, but it seems like I've seen a few people expecting "a big one" why do you anticipate a big quake

Just saw a 6.6 in Japan... that's 5 magnitude 6 or above and one 7 or above in 36 hours, isn't it??:scratch

I like the USGS's new "beta" earthquake maps: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/mapping/

It has some nice filtering sliders on the right hand side.

Kvat, they have been expecting "The Big One" for the last 50 years. It really is overdue.

Not a big deal; just make sure you have a disaster kit (food, water, flashlight, sturdy shoes) at home, and in your trunk. CA WILL get a quake, no one knows when; so it's smart to prepare.

www.ready.gov has good info.

I was in Loma Prieta, 30 miles from the epicenter, on a second floor. I know; they just hit you out of nowhere; that's what makes a quake truly scary.

Happily, in Houston, we generally have some kind of warning on hurricanes and floods.

The map LOOKED interesting until I got to the Elenin comet stuff..

However, the ring of fire is very active, and only ONE corner to go.
