My DD1, is a freshman in high school, I just checked her grades on line she is carrying 7 classes per the directions of our local school board. She is mostly A & B, except for Algebra where she is failing. With money tight because I'm, not working can any one tell me where I can get her help. I, have had Algeba since I was in high school & that has been a few years ago.

I know she's in public school, but you may try to find a homeschool co-op in your area that offers Algebra classes. Most co-ops meet 1 or 2 days a week. If that's not feasible then ask if the teacher in the class could tutor your daughter, or teach her one on one for a flat fee.

You can also check around and see if there are any homeschool stores in your area that offer classes or tutoring. We have several in my area that offer both, and they are very reasonable. The one lady I really like, and have a good relationship with only charges $15/hour for tutoring. If you aren't able to pay then arrange for some kind of trade. There's always something that you or your daughter can do to pay for or trade for tutoring, like cleaning their house or babysitting their kids in exchange for tutoring. Several years ago, we could no longer afford the cost of ballet classes for my daughter, so we arranged to clean the dance the studio in exchange for ballet classes. It was a good trade.

My son found some of my college math books easier to understand than the high school versions. You might find some help that way also.

Try googling thinkwell distance learning. My daughter was struggling with Algebra 2 with Saxon and she was taking forever to do math everyday- we switched to thinkwell and she loves it and gets it. You can sign up for many different levels from prealgebra to calculas. It is divided up into simple categories- have a 10 minutes lesson and then have questions to answer with immediate feedback if you got the problem right or wrong and why. The videos are the best I have seen at answering and explaining problems. Subscription last a year- we signed up a while back we got it through a homeschool buyers coop for about 60- I think it runs around $100 normally but it is for a year and very worth it.
Hope this helps. Or something I did way back in school -- could she get help from an upperclassmen for free.

I love purplemath.
Also, you might try a Saxon Math Algebra 1, D.I.V. E. CD. The professor comes on and works the problems with you that are in the Saxon book. I don't know what curriculum you are using but Saxon is great. Finding some kid that is good in math is always a good thing. I 2nd trying your local hs group...

Hi! I tried posting earlier but I didn't get finished in time and lost what is said.

First: contact your school and ask if there are any teachers who are themselves in school. Sometimes they have to tutor a kid if they are in school. My son was tutored by a teacher who was taking classes. I had her tutor my son (she did it for free)

Didn't want my time to run out. Anyway, he needed help in reading and math so she helped him for 90 min. For free for reading (comprehension) and 90 min. For $15 dollars in math.

Also, our school board has a list of teachers who tutor along with their
prices. You may want to check that out.

Lastly, you may wAnt to check with your child's school (forgot what grade you said) usually the high school students have to have 'community service' hours-maybe the school could pair up your child with a senior whose good in math and the person could use that as part of the service.

We homeschool, I checked out books from the library to teach myself the basics of Algebra.

Since we started school, I have been helping him and learning in the process through the power of prayer.

As a mother, my advice you yourself start from lesson 1, learn it to. Everynight work with your daughter out of her textbook so you both can learn together.

Also the public library here, has tutoring after school till about 8 at night, free. You may want to check with yours.
