Greetings. I’ve spent the past several days, as opportunity allowe, poring over the posts on this board – observing, acclimating, toying with the idea of contributing a comment or two. I am not a Christian and thus I will limit my posts to the Apologetics forum.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will say that I have only recently learned of this site, from my mother, whom I gather is a more liberal Christian than most of the RR membership. You see, she had been a member for a couple of months until she was permanently banned, apparently for “supporting the liberal agenda” and defending gay rights in America. Too bad you couldn’t have gotten to know her better. She’s a lovely, compassionate, funny woman with a heart of gold. As I type this she is over at hospice, dolling out foot rubs. Anyway, I am home for a week to visit my folks before returning to NY to complete my final year of art school. Mother and I were discussing her impressions of and experiences with this board the other day, and that’s when I decided to check things out for myself. So today I have joined in order to ask some questions and hopefully contribute to the discourse. (Can’t wait to meet S. Melon !)

See youse guys in Apologetics !

i would suggest you learn from your moms experience and follow the rules here:)

not saying you will not but i am sure if the same paths are trodden
things will go the same way

they are in place for a reason

We are evangelicals here, we belive the Word of God in every matter

I am sure your mom is a lovely person , so was mother Teresa

but she did not adhere to sound Christian doctrine either

may God bless you

What are the rules here in apologetics? I think that if they are as rigid as in the other rooms, we'll not get very far. On the other hand, I can tell by the content of the posts that they are not. By the way, mother is not a far left liberal by any means unless one compares her political values to the politics of RR. She was an official of the Mike Huckabee campaign way back when he ran for senator of Arkansas (and lost). He and his family have dined at our home, we at his. I mention this only to stress the fact that she is by no means a 'commie-lib', as Rush would say. How ironic that she is accepted as a dear friend by MH, a fundamentalist Christian and ordained minister of the word, yet rejected by the lot of RR.

Well. I will not likely vote republican. I don't believe in the biblical account of creation. I support gay rights. I am not a Christian. There you have it, laid out straightaway. Whether I am accepted or rejected from this board, I will chalk it up to an educational experience.

Yes. I understand. There was a MT thread recently. Read it all.

My mother is a born-again Christian whose 'walk' has led many to the Lord, including an entire Muslim family who imigrated to America from Iran. I would encourage you to not be so judgmental of your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Anyway enough about her and your take on whether or not she adheres to sound Christian doctrine. That's not why I'm here.

Thanks for the smiley face. Back atcha.

''What are the rules here in apologetics''

:idunno

but I can not speak for the Board Moderators

though i fully support them

''I don't believe in the biblical account of creation. I support gay rights. I am not a Christian. There you have it, laid out straightaway. Whether I am accepted or rejected from this board, I will chalk it up to an educational experience. ''

may i ask what is your purpose for being here?
it seems as though you love your mom a lot and feel she has been wronged
and would like to dicuss this with us

it seems like you are here to argue for your mom by Proxy

It seems you would have us convert to your understanding of scripture
as opposed to Gods understanding of the scriptures as he imparts his saints to understand them

DO you desire to repent and acknowledge the in errancy of scripture
and the sin of Homosexuality?

recive the gosple then thats a great thing but i suspect that is not why
you are here:idunno

anyway,

Hey there, ho there Shiny! I just have to blather right off the bat that your posts have intrigued me to no end. Being a right-brained art major (this explains a lot, I think), I more often than not have NO idea what you're saying at first read. I've never Googled so much in my life. Thanks for turning me on to TalkOrigins. Chewy stuff there.

And your avatar reminds me of a certain performance artist I ran into in the city last year who goes by the name of Hedda Lettuce. Just standing there, waiting for the light to change at 23rd and Lex. She was a bit overdressed, let's just say.

Good to meet you.

muwahhh!

So today I have joined in order to ask some questions and hopefully contribute to the discourse.

:wave Ask away!

Can we ask your mom's username? That would give some of us an idea of both sides of the story. If you'd rather not say, that's fine, or if the mods would rather not bring that up again, that's fine too.

Of course you may ask. I do love my mom, sure. A lot. And yes, I happen to think she has been wronged. I do not wish to argue her case by Proxy, no. I'll not bring her up again, with regard to her time on RRBB, unless her Christianity is brought into question, in which case I will likely feel compelled to defend her.

As far as converting members to my understanding of scripture as opposed to God's understanding (??) of the scriptures as he imparts his saints to understand them - not my intention. Though I will say there is an obvious 'us versus them' vibe happening on this board and frankly, it appears to me that the saints can't even agree on the manifestations of the gifts of the spirit or whether or not to partake of an occasional alcoholic beverage, or what music to enjoy, or whether or not it's scriptural to date, or what movies to see, or what video games to play, or what books to read.

[DO you desire to repent and acknowledge the inerrancy of scripture and the sin of Homosexuality?

Well no, I do not desire to repent. I am not a Christian. I do acknowledge that the Bible lists a plethora of sins against God, homosexuality being one of them.

I am here to share some of my experiences with growing up in a fundamentalist Christian household, being homeschooled for much of my life (ACE curriculae), and share the reasons why I walked away from my faith. Would that be all right?

:wave Ask away!

Great ! I'll start a new thread this afternoon after I return from Madison.

:Can we ask your mom's username? That would give some of us an idea of both sides of the story. If you'd rather not say, that's fine, or if the mods would rather not bring that up again, that's fine too.

Um, let me check with her and see if she minds. Perhaps we should ask the mods too. If it's a problem with the mods (which is understandable, as you note), but okay'd on my mom's side, I may PM you later.

Later then ... : )

p.s. I'm not BB-familiar. How do I install an avatar?

fair enough

there is an us verse them mentality it as it should be

while other folks not being sure what to do or act is normal

some are father along in their walk and have more knowledge
than others

thats the great thing about the Body

as we learn from each other using the scriptures

again us vs them

indeed
