It might be a good idea to sign up for the recall email notification

it is disturbing that there are around 400 recalls every year that peopl never find out about

just wanted to share, as i have had a crib AND high chair recall and a defective baby gate to deal with (that i would have been oblivious to had i not checked these sites on a a whim and in boredom!)

Window blind cords or any cords on window coverings should be eliminated. I sure wish the CPSC would tell the public about the 45 children that have died since the death of my daughter 5 years ago. I sure wish they would tell the public that children as old as 10 years old are dying on these "safer" cords and safety kits instead of going along with the industry and skirting the issue. I don't understand why window coverings are not #1. They have the most deaths and people have more blinds and cords in their home that they do magnets!

Because it's not about the safety of people, it's about the bottom line. You will find that in most industries. Just like the number of preservatives and chemicals in both food and skin care. Cancer rates have skyrocketed in the past 10 years and billions of dollars are spent on cancer care and hundreds of thousands are sick and dying but the money is more important.

1 in 7 women get breast cancer and more men are getting it than ever before but it isn't changing anything. It is very frustrating and just like you, all I can do is try to educate people one person at a time.

Thanks for all you do and I'm so sorry for what happened to your family. I am sick at it and how it could have been prevented.

yah, i wonder what made them rate them in the order that they did. i'm not disputing that magnets are very deadly, especially if they are falling out of toys like that, but there are more deaths with blind cords :idunno

i have to wonder why most people choose blinds over curtains anyhow...they defiantely dont look better! some of the bamboo kinds look really cool, but i have always hought that drapes look much nicer and not so cheap

i am very sorry for your loss :shocked

With the recent recalls from Mattell, wouldn't you think this country would wise up and bring the manufacturing back to the USA, where it belongs. If we continue to allow China, Mexico, Thailand, etc. to manufacture our goods, we'll continue to have these kinds of problems.

A boycott of the companies that have taken their plants to other countries would turn the manufacturing industry around in a hurry. But the fact is, we pick up the foreign "junk" and haul it home without giving thought to the fact that so many American jobs have been sacrificed.

And Kathe is absolutely right - it's all about money, not safety.

I would think all the lawsuits filed against these foriegn manufactures would cause them NOT to deal with us. I think they should raise the steaks HIGHER in America as far as accidental death and serious permanent injury against the manufactures who make these products. I understand why they have caps on states because people are "sue" happy, however there are many legitimated cases were people were killed or severely hurt and they have to settle for 250,000 or something like that because the state only allows so much. That hardly is worth of a life or a permanent injury.
I heard one of these Chinese manufactures who had their lead toys recalled killed himself.
This is crazy and I have been fighting to get something done on the window covering side, and I also work with other non-profits who are also fighting against products that kill children and adults alike.
