For one thing, I have heard people in church B talk about non-charismatics as being non-Spirit-filled, not that they are not saved, just that they aren't filled, whatever that means. My Bible says everyone who believes is filled with the Spirit. Another thing that finally got to me was the insistence that everyone who is saved should speak in tongues, to the point that people are faking it just to fit in. There are other things as well. Those are just a few. It bothers me that when I go to church I feel like I've been to a pep rally, not to church. The pastor relies to much on "words from God" from people in the congregation and that kind of thing. Not a lot of Bible study going on.

This sounds exactly like the church I went to 15 years ago. At first I was like, wow. These are some energetic outgoing folk! But it was like eating a plate full of raw celery when what you are really craving is a steak, ya know? After about 6 months I could almost point with my finger what was going to happen next. Somebody was going to stand up and speak in tongues then cue in the older than dirt guy who gets up and walks around the congregation saying stuff that makes no sense to anyone but him. Then someone on the other side of the church passes out. Okay! Let's go have lunch.

I learned nothing. Not one thing. I take that back. I learned that if I didn't speak in tongues I could go to church funtions but only because it's the Christian thing to do--to let those who aren't all the way saved on in.

EX-ACTLY. On all those points.

That is so true. After you get past the newness of being allowed to jump up and down and make noise in church and the infatuation with all the raw display of emotion there isn't any substance there.

Incidentally, the church I am leaving is in the process of going down financially for about the third time and evidently it is just beyond them why. :idunno Maybe opening the Bible once in a while instead of just meeting to sing feel good campfire songs, fall on the floor, and hear arbitrary prophetic words from God having nothing to do with anything from brother Roy and sister Suzie? :rolleyes

I saw an expose of Benny Hinn on TV the other night. The reporter went to a few of his crusades and talked to some people who used to work for him. What was discovered is that he instructs his "stage guards" to only allow people with cancer, aids, or some other non-obvious ailment on to the stage. People with wheel chairs and crutches are stopped and sent away. Then Hinn pretends to heal them by pushing them over or whatever.

The reporter then independently tracked down the people who were supposedly healed and not a one of them was. They all had aids, cancer, etc. They even showed this one little boy, who Benny Hinn had claimed to healed and promised to pay for his schooling. The boy's condition had deteriorated and he had not recieved one dime from the ministry.

Hinn is a skilled showman who uses his pompous grandeur and the emotional vulnerability of people to create his castle of lies. He lives in a 15 million dollar mansion (dont quote me on the 15, but its extremely high), has a fleet of his own mercedes, and wears suits custom made in a beverly hills tailor featuring 24-carat gold thread. He has a private jet. He always stays in 5 star hotels and throw money away on frivilous things. The reporter actually obtained some of Hinn's financial records from an insider, and they supported the prior statements without exception.

Benny Hinn is a devil of the worst kind. He abuses people's faith and takes their money for his own selfish lifestyle. He even sells autographed Bibles for thousands of dollars. How many lives has he destroyed and faiths has he shattered to obtain this? I think there is a special place in hell for people like him.

No, it is from a Derek Webb song titled 'Ballad in Plain Red.' It's a great song and album that I think every Christian should have.
