Any other Harley riders out there (or other motorcycle riders?). I ride a sportster (love it), and thinking about adding a Touring bike. I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of Christians I have come accross who share this interest.

Regards

I've been riding Harleys since '95 and motorcycles of some form since around '85. If anyone wants to buy mine, it's for sale (http://autos.nwsource.com/listingOverview.aspx?c=2&did=74&vin=12054994). Unfortunately, I've got no bites on it, so it'll likely end up on ebay within the near future. After I get back from Iraq, I'm looking to get one of these (if my Harley is sold):

Have been a CMA (http://www.cmausa.org/) member since '95 as well.

Robbinson, did you get in touch with a local chapter? It is a great ministry and well worth checking out. Let us know how it goes.

Marty - not yet - but I plan too. I appear to be between zones - the nearest chapter being in Poughepsie, NY - about 1.5 hours north of me - I plan to reach out to them and see where their other members ride.

Thanks again

If they don't have a chapter near you, I'll bet they will help you start one in your area. That is what we are doing around here.

I want to get a Harley and find out where other Harley riders live so I can ride my harley up and down their blocks at all hours of the night and maybe stop in front of their homes and rev the engine a while. Also, I want to look for other Harley riders who are on their cell phones and pull up by them and rev 'er up a few times right next to them. Basically, I want to give Harley riders a dose of their own medicine. I can think of nothing more rude and obnoxious than a Harley Davidson, what a way to say "I don't care a thing about anyone else around me and I will make as much noise as I want". I don't see how that fits in with being Christian.

Ouch - I'm not sure what a Harley or any other motorcylce rider ever did to you. Sure, there are abusers among riders (as there are among drivers of cars, and among people who play their stereo systems), but to condemn motorcycle riding per se as unchrisitan is quite a statement. In love from one Christian to another,

Regards

Neither Harley I've owned had loud pipes, and they were not much louder than the average motorcycle. As for your last comment, I fail to see how riding a Harley has anything to do with being or not being a Christian, but if you have scriptural reference supporting your point I'd like to see it.

HD owner for many years. Like building them as much as riding.
Currently have a '78 Shovelhead project on the building table.

I want to look for other Harley riders who are on their cell phones and pull up by them and rev 'er up a few times right next to them. hrm... and I want to slash out the tires of cars, trucks, suvs with drivers that drive around with cell phone in hand. Cell phones in cars should be illegal because it distracts the driver and I cant tell you how many close calls on my bike and in my truck I've had with some dope not paying attention because they were squawking away on their cell phone. JohhnyHye, as you said, I don't see how that fits in with being a Christian... while the noise of day to day life is interrupting your cell phone conversation in your car, people are being killed by cell phone-drivers, everyday. It must stop!

Yes, most Harley riders with whom I've ridden had non-stock pipes that were loud (the stock pipes on Harley-Davidson motorcycles are actually relatively quiet). Many riders will say that the loud pipes are a safety feature designed to get the attention of inattentive car drivers, since many four-wheel drivers tend not to see motorcycles on the road with them. There is some level of truth in that, for example, I recall several years ago when a woman driving a car looked dead into my eyes and then began to merge into me. Only when I delivered a swift kick with my boot into the side of her car did she feign to see me. That said, I can see little value of loud pipes for safety purposes, since the loud noise tends to emit behind the rider, whereas the danger is almost always to the front. I've never had loud pipes on my bikes, because they generally reduce the performance of the bike and add nothing but noise. I did install very loud air horns on both my bikes, which did save my life. For example, a minivan began to merge into me when I blasted him with my twin air horns. His reaction was almost comical ... but he did then notice I was on the road with him.

For any motorcycle rider out there, I would heavily recommend you buy and install air horns on your bike. They're much more likely to save you from inattentive four-wheelers than would loud pipes.

These (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bikerhiway.com/images/rivco/ahhd.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bikerhiway.com/index.php%3Fmain_page%3Dindex%26cPath%3D29&h=80&w=95&sz=3&hl=en&start=9&um=1&tbnid=ash1sDPXz5DgPM:&tbnh=67&tbnw=80&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dnautilus%2Bmotorcycle%2Bair%2Bhorns%2 6svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26clie nt%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3DaK2%26sa%3DN) are the air horns I had on my Harley dresser:

My Harley horns were so loud that I could often get trains to respond to my honks with their giant horns when I was riding on the interstate. Here (http://autoimages.gabriels.net/default.aspx?w=448&i=http://dealerimages.gabriels.net/SeattleTimes_Autos/Classifieds/Images/Downloaded/12054994_12054994_1.jpg&f=NWautos/74&s=12054994_0.jpg) is a photo of that bike (just sold it) with the air horns attached.

I know that women aren't supposed to post in the mens forum and if my post is deleted I will understand. But I just couldn't let this one pass.

My husband and I go to The Biker Church. The pastor and his wife are our best friends. It would be hard to find 2 people that love and serve Christ more! You can check out their website @ http://www.thebikerchurch.org

I'm sorry that you seem to have had a bad experience, but I assure you, not all bikers are rude and obnoxious any more than all golfers are Tiger Woods. I guess I just don't understand why being a biker couldn't be just as Christian an activity as being a golfer or a computer geek? If a Christian is doing it with the heart of Christ doesn't it become a Christian activity?
