It means to not dwell too much on who is a false teacher, who believes differently than you, etc., and just recognize it and move on with your own walk. As stated in the thread by someone already, not every teacher has the exact same doctrine as everyone else. In fact, every teacher out there today has at least one thing that someone else is going to disagree on...gauranteed.

The problem is, while we are called to defend the faith, that is not in question, we do run the risk of becoming like Ephesus in so doing. In other words, it is easy to "rightly divide" the doctrines, but if we lose our first love, and our love for others is replaced with distain for their teachings, then we miss the point. While we may deplore the deeds and doctrines of the nicolaitans, but not have love and compassion for those who may not know they are hearing false teaching, then Jesus is not pleased.

Let's face it y'all...this is an anyomous chat board and it is really easy to pick apart everyone's doctrines and call it "contending for the faith" and walk away feeling justified, but is that really the spirit of fellowship that Jesus desires for those who call Him LORD? Someone rightly stated already that with 6,000 members, there is bound to be issue that we disagree on. The challenge isn't, IMO, rightly dividing the Word here as much as it is living peacably with each other in so doing. That is the thing we should be striving for. :) I love a good debate, but I hate debating others who of The Way...debates should be with unbelievers in hopes of bringing them to Christ.

I think that Jesus said it best in Matthew 24. He said that there would be big signs before His return. (These are big signs that we can assume would make most people stop, think, and seek the Lord.) Jesus also said that there will be false prophets and deceivers and that because we see so many getting away with the increase of lawlessness - that the love of most will grow cold.

Some will fall into the trap of thinking that everyone is getting away with wickedness so they will ignore the huge signs around them. They'll be so numb to evil that they will continue to tune out the signs and begin to live as if the Lord will never return. Since they don't stop and consider the signs and seek the Lord - they'll continue to carry on doing the things they've always done until the "flood" is upon them.

Jesus basically said that people would become used to the evil around them and ignore His signs - warnings - and that's why many all over the world arenít listening.
