I will admit that I still like __some__ of my old rock. Like the Carpenters. But most I don't. I also like Classical, Vocalists for the 50 & 60s (Dean Martin like), Some "big band" from the 40s and 50s, and some light Opera.

Does anyone since getting saved still listen to secular music? I have lost my desire for such and now listen only to christian music. :thinking
I was just wondering how much of the secular world (as far as entertainment goes) believers still engage in. What do you think is still acceptable for a Christian to watch or read or listen to?
I listen to just about anything (except for classical, opera, or 'Gangster Rap'). I have a broad range of musical likes, from George Strait to Eddie Van Halen. From The Beach Boys to Enya and Enigma. I even enjoy hip-hop such as Beastie Boys and MC Hammer.
But when I am driving, I usually either listen to talk radio (Hannity, Mark Levin, ect) or the local Christian radio (KLTY)

I don't see anything wrong with listening to secular music as long as it does not have cursing in it and other things. I used to listen to rap alot but I have stopped listening to that now. I still listen to certain country songs and some classic rock songs. I don't listen to drinking songs or anything like that, but, I do listen to songs like sweet home alabama, country boy can survive, and etc.
That's why i listen mostly to trance [electronic music with a 4/4 beat and mucho mundo melodies and lovely harmony in it] a lot.
Most of it is without vocals in it.
Some examples i like a lot:

It's not so much about any perfection in this type of music, but more about the feeling it can give.
When i listen to trance, with some tracks it seems as if i can view a slice of the coming eternity with God we'll be spending with Him.
I listen to other styles as well concerning secular music, but most what i listen to is trance tracks.

Just take those old records off the shelf.....
We'll always have memories. That is why we need new Godly experiences.
Ever heard of Keith Green, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Stephen Curtis Chapman....
Good music is what it is. Just watch what is going in.
Wally.....love all three of your selections. Keith Green came just recently in my listing of songs on RR. I thought he was too ahead of his time back when...but some of those songs are inspirational! The original Narnia songs were sung by 2nd Chapter...also loved many of their selections. S.C.C. love his stuff. All in all...If the song had a message..and it wasn't western, except the stuff my dad liked, I would listen to it.

I love any music that pleases my soul and is skillfully played with true emotion. There is good Christian music and secular music. I record music and produce and I would never give my music to anything but goodwill. I played guitar and bass guitar in a worship band and sang in a cantata. The cantata was a very emotional and spiritual experience and sounded very good. The worship band was good but a couple of members had problems with tempers and egos, which I could never understand, but overall it was a great experience. I also played classical solo in the church with a great pianist. We played very well together and at Christmas, people would come to us after we finished with tears in their eyes and kiss us and thank us. One time, my Pastor grabbed me out of the pews and took me into the foyer. He took my hand and put a $100 bill in it and said "You really made someones day this morning and they wanted you to have this." What a blessing that was! It was truly wonderful! I thank G-d for all of them and for giving me the gift to be able to play and use my talent to praise Him and bless them!

I like to imagine The second Coming of the Lord and His Angels whilst listening to Joe Satriani's "Flying in a Blue Dream", a truly awesome instrumental.
A piece of Classical music that I listen to a lot is the music from "Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan" by James Horner.
Other than that mostly 60's to 80's music that I grew up with, interestingly there is still a lot of radio stations Here that play a lot of old music, says a lot about modern music that does.
I find that most modern popular music has become emptier and more lacking in genuine creativity that what I grew up with, and I don't think it's just that I'm getting older either.
If I'm going to listen to Christian music, it will be Worship music, something like Hillsong from a few years ago. I like worship songs with meaningful lyrics and a good tune, not just some drab repetitive junk.
I know this much for a fact, The Music in Heaven will absolutely blow us away.

I still listen to classic country music; but reserve the right to turn it down or off depending on lyrics, etc.

You can be a Christian and still enjoy secular music. I love Van Halen, The Eagles, Metallica, and even some Manson. Whoever said you can only listen to Hymms if you are a Christian, clearly does not know what they are talking about.
