WOW!! I read about some of the things happening in Australia. Giant hail, wild fires, earthquake, freak dust storms.....sounds like a preview of the wrath to come. Perhaps these type of events will gradually become more common and on a more global scale. My prayers are with the people there.

I'm weird....but I think it's very beautiful looking!! ....but I'm sure my mind would change if I had to go out in it.... how often does this happen?

I'm from further north in Queensland and by midday it had spread to our region, too. It has affected a huge area. I haven't seen a dust-storm of this intensity in these parts since I was a child in the 'sixties. Now the farmers in the outback are complaining that their topsoil has been blown away.

I can still feel the dust in my nose and lungs this evening, there was just no escaping it. Ugh!

up here in queensland as well, it is a real fine reddish dust that takes a little while to feel but after a few minutes I was tasting it and feeling it in my eyes.

cars are covered in the thin stuff, it looks like the results of a volcanic fallout, without the side effects of volcanic ash.

I hope it goes away soon it is getting into the house.

I'm sorry you are going through this. May I ask you a question? You said above the dust is 'a real fine reddish dust'. However, the article referenced at the beginning of this thread said, 'The fiery haze was the result of the sun hitting the blanket of dust, Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jane Golding said'.

Now, I'm curious. Is the dust actually red? Or id the dust itself brown, and only looking red when the sun is hitting it? Can you tell?

I'm also in queensland and it was a shocking day here yesterday. It was so thick for a few hours that you could only see about 100m ahead. I got such a headache from breathing it in - who knows how many pesticides etc were floating around with it? Bleuk :(

The dust is actually a red colour - it's all over everything and I am going to have to do a whole lot of cleaning - but they are saying we might have another storm on Saturday so maybe it's better not to get the mop out!

Here in queensland the sun went blue - it was such a wierd eery light.

Well this was a first for me! I've been living here in Australia for 2 1/2 years now....residing on the Central Coast. I was in shock when I looked out my window that yesterday morning. I just couldn't believe the color of everything and the dust and winds were unreal. I only wish that here in Australia they had more of a warning system similar to the Doppler Radar that we had in the US...no warning at all. I had just spent 2 weeks doing all my Spring cleaning here...the house was spotless...needless to say...we sleep with the windows open...and now my whole home is covered in a layer of red dust...EVERYTHING!! I'll have to start all over again. My sinuses and chest seem full of the stuff too...yucko. And now it seems they "think" we may be getting another dust storm on Friday..(wished they had known about the 1st one..lol) Time will tell.....I would suggest everybody living on the Eastern Coast keep your windows shut for a few days and maybe get a mask to help with dust in the air too.

Hello fellow Queenslander! I am in south east Qld, just west of Brisbane. I heard someone say that millions of tons of top soil have been lost from the farming community in the dust storm. Australia is magnesium deficient as it is so this doesn't help at all. By the same token, this Govt has led us in the ways of the world lately - allowing abortions and considering gay marriage, signing on to the whole global warming lie and leading us away from God's righteous laws. Droughts, floods, bushfires and dust storms - the only thing we haven't experienced this year is a terrorist attack on our soil. May God protect our cities from terrorism and give strength and wisdom to our intelligence services to continue interrupting these plots.

Yeah that is what I thought about it.

How are your fires? I heard this morning you have a few up there at the moment.

Nothing really around where I am thankfully, but pretty bad nonetheless. We are usually on total fire ban at all times. I remember as a kid we use to be able to have backyard fires and bonfires at a moment's notice. Those days certainly are gone. However, like most fires, these bushfires are deliberately lit I think.

I awoke this morning to see the skies clear but the evidence of what has been will linger on. Oh well, time to get out the bucket and sponge. The dams in our region are carrying just under 10% of total capacity so I think they are going to allow us to use a little bit more water than usual to wash all the dust away. Still, without significant rain, our dam will hit 0% in about 18 months.

They mentioned Hail the size of cricket balls.Did the storms seem to help clear the air???
