for the elementary years.. My dd is homeschooled 4th grade for all subjects except math, we've been taking that slower and she is doing 3rd grade text this semester and 4th grade next.. she's 10 - and i'm just curious what others do each day for their studies..

oh come on please share.... Pretty please.. :) It's been a rough year for us - i am feeling just a tad (okay alot) like i'm not doing enough, and i am just so curious to see what others are doing and see if some of those ideas might be an encouragement for us.. And give me more ideas to make our day a little more fun..

I have an 8 and 11 year old. :hat

8:00am up and out of bed watch a little tv to wake up.
8:30am chore-pack time (dressed, make bed, clean room, practice music ect.)
9:00am breakfast
After breakfast we start our school assignments. My 11 year old is using TeachingTextbooks for math so he can get to that on his own while I help his sister with her math (Math U See). I pretty much help my 8 year old with everything and my 11 year old works independently. We take short breaks between every couple of subjects. Lunch is at 11:45am and lasts until 12:30. After lunch they finish up whatever they didn't get done before. We are normally done anywhere from 1:30pm to 2:00pm.
Bible reading
Math
Handwriting
Reading
Spelling
Vocab
Writing
Grammar
Sign language

Extras:
Monday - History
Tuesday - History
Wed. - Science, Typing for dd
Thursday - Science, Art
Friday - Gym

Friday is a short day for us where I usually only require Math and Reading from them. Our gym class is at 1:00pm, after that we have the weekend free to ourselves. :yeah

I want to add that last year my 11 year old had an overwhelming schedule. I took a hard look at what we were doing and saw a lot of areas that could be doubled up.

For instance, we don't need a separate reading program. I chose books for him this year that go along with our Science. So far he is really enjoying it. I usually discuss the books with him in a casual conversation peppering it with things like "metaphor", and "non-fiction".
I also combined his handwriting with his writing. Basically I just expect him to write his writing assignments neatly. :lol2

I work a part-time job, so our days vary. On the days I have to work and on the days we go to our co-op we're up around 7:00 a.m. On the days where we have our co-op and I have to go to work we do a math lesson, a grammar lesson, and I give her assignments to do in literature, grammar, and spelling and they have to be finished before she's allowed to play with her friends. The other days, she does the math work for her math lessons, we do more grammar, a history lesson, spelling, writing, and she studies what she learned in her science class.

I work more with her on the days when we don't have our co-op classes, and on the days when I don't have to work, we sleep in a little longer, and work longer on our lessons.

I'm not sure if this made any sense, but I think you get the gist of it.

we have a pretty good schedule going...

6:00- I get up, have some coffee...and time alone
7:00- all 5 kids get up
8:30- family meeting and devotional time. some weeks, we will also cover history
or a current event. This week, we are all ready together, "The Bulletproof
George Washington". Also, at this time each morning, we are singing one
hymn. This month it is "Blessed Assurance".
9:00 each child starts their own studies. They are responsible for each subject in
their assignment book. I take time to help who ever needs it at any particular
time.
11:00 I start making lunch
11:30-1:00 lunch and break time
1:00 I read outloud with my younger kids. My 1st grader and I are presently reading
Charlottes Web, and my 3rd grader and I are reading "Little House on the Prairie"
1:00 Piano and saxaphone practice for the three oldest
2:30 My oldest leaves for band and foot ball
3:30 Day is usually done completely......start planning for supper
7:00 Tae Kwon Do

9:00 Lights out!

thank you for all the replies - and i'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this thread.. what a month! I'm sorry i'm so long winded with this post.. :doh

i guess i was questioning myself and whether or not we were doing enough.. my oldest son went to middle school last year and highschool this year - but b/c he went in a year behind and had some learning challenges (as he's always had since i pulled him out) his bio dad and step-mom were really giving me a hard time - i have really beat myself up about it most of the summer - thinking it was my fault.. :( Though his grades seem to reflect he's doing okay all a's b's and c's.. so i'm not sure why they are so upset.... but it's done a number on me.. and him too for that matter...

Then to make matters worse - my youngest son - who has just turned 9 and has a speech impediment has not grasped reading at all! it took 2 years to just get him to remember his abc's and his sounds.. and after much prayer and tears - i put him into school this year and have asked to have him tested - he does not use phonics to read, he does not understand the concept.... So i had really begun to 2nd guess myself on what am i doing wrong.. my younger son - couldn't even speak well enough to begin practicing abc's until he was 6 - as he didn't speak until he was 4... so on top of explaining this all to the school and putting him in i was feeling and still am on some days like a failure to him.. and questioning God on why didn't i see this sooner.. See they put him in 2 years behind his class - instead of just one year behind b/c all the kids' are reading in 2nd grade supposedly.. and with his speech delay she was afraid it would be even harder for him to fit in in that class..

Testing was approved this month - after i was put on the hotseat and explained to them all of his challenges.. but they have a month to get that done.. I am just worried, why is he not getting it.. :sad

My dd who is still being homeschooled - i guess i just wanted to make sure we are doing all we are supposed to be.. After 8 years - i just felt like two double whammies hit me in the last year or so and was/am really questioning my ability.. And wondering why my baby boy is having such difficulty..

This is what we do on our week....

we do bible time,
reading chapter books daily - except weekends, unless she wants too..
book report once a week apx.. (once the chapter book is finished)
writing - 3 times a week (she doesn't like it much and isn't very creative yet, so we are starting out slow and hoping as she matures she will enjoy it more i chose spectrum workbooks for now, as it's an easy to use format and not to much writing for her)
math 5 days a week - she likes math, but is a bit lazy about it - so granny her tutor is working with her, as we would like to see her get back up to grade level in math, i know she's capable - i just spent so much time with ds last year she wasn't doing her studies and got behind.. So our goal is two math books this year - and so far she is ahead of where i thought we would be right now, so i am thinking we are doing well there..
Grammar - 4 days a week.. and she seems to be doing well with it..
Spelling - 3 to 4 days a week - does a couple of assignments and cursive writing for the spelling words and when she's ready we test..
PE - a class in basketball and soccer 3 days a week - her favorite subject my athlete dd.. ;)
Science - a hands on science class every wednesday at our local homeschool center -
History - is when we have time and she doen't much care for it she says it's boring mom, but we are reading books on colonial america/pioneers right now.. I am trying to fit that in once a week..

I too work right now as hubby is laid off - and some days we do school in the evenings or saturdays - and she doesn't seem to mind - which is SO different then my sons so that is a blessing to me.. :)

check out icsfla.org they have a large private curriculum, with the kids going 3 days to school, two days hme.

Also, circle christian has a lot of great classes.

I find that if my daughter has a friend over, they get their work done in half the time...only an hour per subject. Otherwise we sstruggle to finish in 10 hours.
