What do you all think of Limewire? One of my relatives repeatedly downloads Limewire onto my computer, and I delete it every time. I heard it carries viruses. I keep telling my relative not to download it because it could harm the computer, but he doesn't seem to listen.

Limewire in and of itself isn't bad; but it allows very easy access to warez, illegal music downloads, etc., which IS bad.

In a way that's kind of like saying a landmine in itself isn't bad unless you step on it.:heh Limewire is a very effective p2p app but it is so easy to accidentally download malware, Trojans and other harmful files that aren't what they appear that i could never recommend it.

Put a password or something on your computer so he can't just arbitarily do things to it.

Considering that, as a combat engineer, I have armed and disarmed landmines, yes, that's a pretty apt comparison.
:D
(Betcha didn't see that one coming.)
Maybe a more apt comparison is 'strong drink.' In and of itself it's not bad; it's what you do with it that counts, and it's SO easy to overdo it.

Maybe 151 or everclear.
Or i could say that if ever there was a p2p app that i would not recommend for the casual user limewire is it.
Here is what often happens with limewire. :pickles :lol2

I've tried Bearshare, Emule and Ares, all pretty good apps with no spyware or adware and nary a scary download.
:heh Yeah, I retyped that three times till I got "nary" to rhyme with "scary"! :cool

Illegal malware in my opinion. I managed to find a file that had such a bad virus on it that it not only crashed my pc but it led to the demise of my friend's router. My pc has since been wiped and re loaded and I never went back to limewire. With my old computer, I couldn't get it off until I just deleted the files associated with it.
Some parts of the program are just too weird to be true. Their is a free version and a paid version. You can download the free version and use that to download the paid version for free. How messed up is that?
Limewire :badscore

Every time my son went to Limewire I ended up having to do a restore of the computer... I don't allow him to go to it at all anymore.
Also... there is porn on that site...
