The source is a state owned Russian news agency but, if true, this is a big part of the jigsaw that can be seen by those 'with eyes to see'.

Why would it bother? Just like its partner North Korea (which also pulled out of this a few years ago before revealing its nukes), it never intended to honor it to begin with.

Yes, but by removing their name, now there's nobody to point the finger at them and hold them to something they signed (or try to anyways), now they're free to do as they want and we can no longer throw at them "well, you signed the non-proliferation treaty!" :sad

Here's my take on it...

The reason that they were party to the treaty seems to have been to allow themselves to get to a certain stage of development without getting bombed by Israel. By paying lip-service to the treaty they have got themselves as far as they wanted to. Now they leave and can really go for the nukes.

It took North Korea two years and one month to announce they had nukes after they left the treaty. It'll take Iran a lot less time because they have the benefit of North Korea's experience.

If they leave Israel will undoubtedly attack very quickly, Iran knows this but perhaps Iran (or rather, Iran's leaders) wants it!?

Exactly what I was thinking. They're just a bunch of liars so it serves them better to hide their nuclear activities behind false treaties.

Perhaps this is why they're holding that news conference tomorrow.

Yes, after all if they get caught and bombed by Israel they can always wave the treaty at the UN and demand a condemnation. I doubt it would hesitate.

To be fair, they got nearer to the start line than the state of Israel. I love the Jewish people but their government never even thought about entering the treaty!
