Hi, I need some help from you all!

I need some ideas on a verbal presentation of the Bible (the true Word of God) to an audience of believers and non believers. Time limit is 1/2 hour.

Any thoughts?

If there are going to be non-believers then at least part of the message could be a salvation message.

As far as ideas, you can choose man's life span, an event in the bible, or Samson, or a prophet, or the priesthood.

You could talk about Jerusalem, Babylon, or Egypt in the events that occurred.

Or the Ark of the Covenant, the tent of meeting, Samuel, David, or Saul.

Vow of a Nazarite, or the ministry of John the Baptist, or the birth of Christ.

The list is endless.

an overview of the bible from beginning to end touching on the main Characters God has brought change of policy through from start to finish could be condensed into 1/2 hour.explain how these men were led by God to a new revelation.Examples:Adam,Noah,Abram,Isacc,Jacob,Da vid,Daniel,Ezra,John the Baptist,Jesus,Disciples,Paul,John.

I suggest a reading and discussion built around Hebrews Chapter 11 (Men of Faith thru-out the Bible) - using a translation that is more easily understood

.....and then defining to your audience what that "faith" was built on - i.e. OT persons looking forward in faith to the coming of Christ, and the NT (after Acts) - looking backwards in faith to the life and work of Christ on the cross - which IMO summarizes the whole intent of the Bible (Jesus Christ revealed by God to man)

10 Keys for Unlocking the Bible (http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=465471&event=ESRCN&item_code=&product_redirect=1)
ISBN (in case the link doesn't work) 0802465471
You may be able to read it in a half an hour. it is a small format book. Of the 141 pages, I think half of them have graphics. Best quick overview of the Bible I have seen. It is very clear, very simple language and yet quite powerful.

What is the class for? That should guide the nature of your talk.
Was the "true Word of God" the assigned sub-title or are you just making your perspective clear?

Hey Greg

Thank you so much for this link, I may go see if I can find this at Lifeway tomorrow, unfortunatley this is for Thursday so I dont have time to order online for this but if I cant find maybe Ill order just to have.

This presentation is for a home church (my mom and dad's), once every few years they break from their course study to do an A B C's of Christianity and my mom was asked to cover the "Bible" part of this study. While she is very skilled and knowledgeable with scripture, I just thought bc there will be non believers there (more than usual) that she should keep it as grass roots as possible? Grass roots doesnt equal non or no scripture in my mind - if I was an unbeliever or a baby baby and heard her speak, my head would spin...Im just trying to think what she could present in away that will refresh the HC as a whole and reach the non belivers as well. I think she just has to take it down a few notches so she is understood by someone who maybe doesnt understand. I hope this makes sense.

I was thinking proof of the Bibles trustworthiness as the Word of God. But I wanted to get opinions for my brothers and sisters on rr. I know she can reach alot of people bc everyone in this HC is going to bring at least 1 non believer and there are already 25-30 members.

As the Word of God wasnt a subtitle - just clarification on my perspective :)

As Im writing this Im realizing that this is very personal for me - one of the people who will be in attendence is the mother of a friend of mine. This friend committed suicide early this year and this mom is searching searching searching...for answers (it was her only daughter). I know Jesus can bring her relief!

Thanks again

I like using the gospel of John or 1 John - very plain and use emotion or capture interest.

Like John 4 and the woman at the well. Simple conversation, and it speaks to where she lives and shows her true needs are not tangible but spiritual.

Jesus used parables - and most stories or allegories engage people.

I put this on my PDA for prayer on Thurs.

It is interesting that in my original post I had started to warn against doing a sort of "evidence-based" presentation and then deleted it. I was thinking this might be in a college classroom. I have been around a little bit. I will be 50 in a couple of months and have been a Christian since my early 20s. I have found that evidence based defenses of the Bible play right into unbeliever's self-deception. (I love to hear of how archeology, etc mesh with the Bible. I think we all (Christians) do. So we assume it will have the same power on the unbeliever). There are not enough hours in the day, days in the month, months in the year to play out all the unbelievers "problems" with the Bible. This method allows him to keep the subject on something other than his relationship to God. When we present these proofs for his appraisal, we are tacitly saying he is worthy to judge the Bible or some particular area of science is worthy to judge the Bible. That makes the person or scientific discipline a higher authority than the Bible. We give away the whole thing at the very beginning of the conversation.
You can find more on this line of thought in an area of study called presuppositional apologetics. Some of the main writers have been vanTil, Bahnsen, John Frame. It isn't easy, although it is much easier if you can find someone who has studied it to talk to. It is worth the time and you will find it is very disarming in debates, sort of like 2Cor 10:5.

Half an hour is really short to talk about the Bible. If you start talking about "How we got the Bible", there is no time to talk about "What is the Bible".
I would go with about 5 minutes for "What is the Bible" - God lowering Himself to reveal Himself to man through man's language using man's writing and perfectly preserving it say what He wants it to say.
And the other 25 minutes to "What is in the Bible" and lay out, obviously in very broad brushstrokes, the story of God's redemption of his fallen creation, but especially man, for His own glory. Creation to fall to redemption. Somewhere in there should be the statement that because God owns all He created He owns all the people in your audience and that one of the purposes of the Bible is so that they could know how to properly relate to God and their need for a savior so that they can properly relate to God.
God bless you and your mom in this endeavor. I will be praying.
