Which is better Assembly of God or Calvary Chapel?

It would depend entirely on the pastor :idunno

I prefer nondenominational, like Calvary Chapel.

Assembly of God, if the right man is teaching, is just as good.

Where are you located??? :scratch

Northern Colorado

I am willing to drive an hour if it's for a good Church. I will check out Calvary and let you know how it goes. I first heard about it through a Customer at work who's a Pastor and he sounded very Biblical and enlightened.

You can search through the threads here for an idea. There are some AoG's that are good, and some that are not.

Calvary Chapel is non-denominational. That means it is ONLY the Bible that is taught, and no membership you have to join for things like communion and the like. None of the man made traditions and clap trap that go on in assorted denominations :thumb

Prayer
Worship songs

Bible Study/teaching

then fellowship

One of the things that I absolutely love is they do not pass the offering plate. There is an agape box in the back where people can give as the Lord leads them and not out of peer pressure or embarrassment.

I've been at the CC I attend for 2 years. I've learned more there than in 20+ years of being a Christian.

Me too. My 12 year old knows more than many adults who've spent years in other churches. :yeah

And no, DO NOT GO to an emergent/contemplative/signs and wonders church, as they are teaching ANOTHER GOSPEL which is accursed.

Again, please check www.calvarychapel.com and do a search for churches in your area. :wave

I've been to my local website but never to this website.....

THEY HAVE E-BOOKS!

My 16 y.o. is an apologetic in her own right! I can't believe this in today's society and with today's teens..my daughter can spot heretical teaching!

When she hears it, she tells me and explains error in the teaching.

If you would have told me that she (or I for that matter) would have this knowledge this 2 years ago, I would not have believed it. :shocked

If I leave this world today, my daughter has a firm foundation!

PTL!

:thankyou2 Jesus!

Praise the Lord ImHis :yay

Isn't it amazing the difference it makes being immersed in the Word instead of covered in sermons? Before we were guided to our local church, I thought it was impossible to get the kids that interested in getting into the meat of the Bible.
My 9 year old debates with the 12 year old on things like the origin of the Nephilim while the 13 year old checks their references. It's a hoot to watch, and what is more fun is when they do it in the company of their lukewarm grandparents :heh

I'll never forget the 'educated' new husband of their grandmother telling them how a truly global flood was impossible. A good story from the Bible, but was likely just a very soggy local flood.
Little blues eyes looked the man dead in the face and said "God did not promise He would never flood a local area again."

Left the ole educated coot speechless :heh

I agree about the Calvary Chapels. They are very biblically sound and unpretentious. However, they are all different in tone, etc. and you should go to a few of them if you have options in your area to find the best one for you. Also, if you want to try them out, go to jesusisreality.com, or calvarysbd.com, or calvary chapel newberg living waters (an excellent!!! teaching source), or calvary chapel woodland california, and listen to a few sermons online. You will be able to determine how biblically sound or relevant CC's are in general. I pray you find a church soon that is just right for you, don't give up.

There's a Calvary Chapel in the city where I might be working at, in a month. Seems easy enough to get to (although I'd probably need a car, but will probably need one anyway). This particular CC church has Chuck Smith Sr.'s books on their Web site.

I was looking at another even closer church online, but my gut feeling now says it seems so like one-verse-for-a-whole-sermon, watered down. :twitch

I would just like to find a good church that I felt like my family and I could grow in. It is amazing what some teach. Boggles my mind and what confuses me the most is whne others fall for it. I live around military bases on all sides and there is no shortage of churches, just a shortage of ones that arent teaching something that should even be in church.
