There has just been an 8.1 earthquake in the Santa Cruz Islands in the south pacific. It was very shallow 33km.

They have issued a tsunami warning for the south pacific as a precaution.

It's been updated to a 7.8 (according to USGS)

It;s only showing as a 4.9 on the IRIS Seismic monitor site. I guess we'll hear eventually. In the meantime the one in the Celbes sea looks like it won't have any effect - a biggie though!!

Tsunami warning is in effect for Vanuatu / Solomon / Nauru / Papua New Guinea / Tuvalu / New Caledonia / Fiji / Kiribati / Kosrae / Wallis-Futuna / Howland-Baker
