Southern Hawaii on alert; Big Island also shaken by 5.3 earthquake
Flossie downgraded, but still dangerous
HONOLULU - Hurricane Flossie was downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane Tuesday, but stayed on course to brush the Big Island.
The eye of the storm had maximum sustained winds of 110 mph, hurricane specialists noted in downgrading the storm from the earlier Category 3. It was expected to pass less than 100 miles from the islands, lashing the shores with strong wind and up to 15 inches of rain, meteorologists said.
Big Island residents and tourists were warned to stock up on food and water. As if the storm wasn’t enough, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted the Big Island overnight.

Hawaii and Alaska are two common places that see alot of seismic activity. Hurricane is pretty unusual thought. They haven't had one since the 1990's.
What I think is really unusual, is all the flooding around the world this summer. Europe, China, Japan, U.S. . .Indonesia was hit but they get hit every year during monsoon season. They say that this year has been particularly bad, though. Records have been smashed this summer. At least that's what I've heard.

If Hurricane Flossie wasn't enough...now Hawaii also gets rocked by an earthquake. :idunno To think, I happen to have in-law relatives out there, living on the Big Island.
