I don't drink coffee, but stopped to get some for my co-workers today when I went out at lunchtime. I was :shocked that two med. coffee cost $4!! I'm glad I don't drink coffee or smoke!

Get ready to pay even more for milk and dairy products.
In Michigan, my MIL who is a dairy farmer said because of the drought they are going to have to buy hay to feed the cows this winter.

Thanks, JACP.
And sorry again for the rant/outburst.
It simply burns my soul to be "On my butt" when I am able to so many things, but unable to find my perfect spot.
Mom always said it's not good for the soul to not work. I was always skeptical of stuff she said, but nowadays I can't even enjoy a good game anymore unless I feel I've really EARNED the time in front of my T.V.
And this is from a former game addict, too!
Yes, I also praise the LORD for providing for me in my hours of need. I am simply venting my desire to glorify him through my work ethic and related skills, etc..
Who knows? With the way the waves seem to be turning for me at this current season, the LORD may be preparing to prosper me despite the doom and gloom the economical analysts are predicting.. If GOD prospered Egypt in spite of a famine through Joseph, then he can do the same for me regardless of whatever may be in the future!
Wow. Thanks again for lifting me up. I'm ready to go out and plow some grain now! (Just kidding, I'm not a farmer.)
You know you are in the best place for the battle zone that is going on. Spend the extra time you have praying for peace and for the world and give glory to God. Most of the rest of us probably don't spend enough time praying and if you have the time it would be a big help to the rest of us. Maybe that's what God has in mind for you to do.

The worst thing the govt can do is to try the wage and price controls that were attempted in the 70s. The misery of that was tremendous. The damage to the economy was enormous. The oil shortages were only made worse by govt intervention.
There are cycles. Economies go through cycles because people foolishly forget the basics (that were learned from the previous downturn).
If the govt would leave things alone, people figure it out and things turn up again. The problem is that everyone expects the govt to fix it.
The Great Depression would've lasted much less time if FDR wasn't experimenting all over the place. Business people were afraid to invest because they didn't know what was coming next from FDR. It was only WW II that pulled us out of it.
I've got 6 kids. We're living on the edge after I was laid off a bunch of times (high tech bubble burst). But, I do not want the govt to come in a mess things up worse. Cut taxes. Cut regulation. Get out of people's lives. Other than that, do nothing.

It's not the government who doesn't want to increase min. wage it's corporate america. When they get an increase then everyone up the corporate ladder needs an increase. So what seems like nickel and dimes to us could actually be thousands upon thousands. It puts real pressure on smaller companies, and mom and pop shops who are already struggling.
As for groceries increasing, I don't know how any of you with children do it. You should be giving the rest of us seminars on shopping. I'm only feeding a husband but still spend 2x as much today then a year ago. Were not buying more and it's still hurts. That extra disposable income so many of us had 5 years has slowly been eaten up buy gas, utilities, taxes and now food. No more trips to Olive Garden for me. That's a tank a gas! I cannot imagine how it will be in the future. That whole 'failure to launch syndrome' will be nothing will see second and possibly three generations living in the same house in a few decades out of neccesity. The future seems so grim sometimes.
Let them increase min wage I could use a real raise!!:thumb

... will see second and possibly three generations living in the same house in a few decades out of neccesity. The future seems so grim sometimes. May I use the quote here to point out something?
I am speaking to all of us and that includes me. Whenever I get on the ol' soapbox, I like to set up a mirror in front of it first. If you could see me in person saying this, you would know that it is to be taken as spoken gently. Absolutely no offense intended RememberTheName, but I am typing this as though speaking with melancholy.
In America; in the West, we speak of "difficulties" where there are none. This is not because we are bad Christians. It is because we are ignorant. Now ignorant merely means that we don't know something so in a very real sense, we are all ignorant of something. We, in the West and maybe especially in the United States, just like anyone, have nothing at all to do with where we are born, and we happened to be born into a society where life is on the average, very, very good. We wake up in the morning from a clean, comfortable bed. We have hot water to take a shower. We have cool water to drink and a glass of it, when held up, can easily be seen through with no floaties. We can choose what we want for breakfast and leftovers can go into the refrigerator. We already have on clean clothes that are light when it is the summer months and heavier when it is the winter months. We get into a car that is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter with wipers when it is raining. Some have cars that start with the push of a button from inside the house so that it is warm already when they get in it ... or cool. We go to a job where gov't regulations make the work environment quite safe. At the end of the work day, we do part of the above in reverse, choose what we feel like having for supper, put the dirty dishes into a machine that washes them and dries them for us while we watch a movie or otherwise entertain ourselves. Perhaps once per week we go out to a bible study or some such group and openly pray, worship and study God's holy Word. If we wish to be alone, we can do that. If we wish to socialize, we can do that. If we or a child is sick with something, we can go to the medicine storage and take something or go to the store and get it. We go to bed, sleep in safety and arise in the morning to do it all over again. Weekends? Whew ..... there is almost as many things to do as there are people. All of this and much more I haven't mentioned (Like CD/iPod music at home and in the car and perhaps at work, for example. Or cell phones for convenience ...) is not bad. In fact, much of it is blessing from God.
However ...
Deuteronomy 8:
7 *For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;
8 *A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;
9 *A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
10 *¶When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
11 *Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
12 *Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
13 *And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
14 *Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
18 *But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Yes, this is our Lord speaking to the Israelites, but there is a principle in this that is very applicable to us. Being materially blessed is a very hard place to be as it is a place that makes it easy to forget the Lord and to do His commandments.
Matthew 22:
38 *This is the first and great commandment.
39 *And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 *On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Biblically, love is an act of forsaking self or laying down one's life for the benefit of another.
How is it, with all the bodily needs more than satisfied, that we can be found discontent? I believe we have grown into something a bit weird. It seems that an inherent part of the fallen human nature is to even more hang on to what one has, the more one has. I know folks who have very little; and I do mean very little, that would give the shirt off their back for someone in need. This is likely because they can relate to one in need. Yes, there are those who have little and cling to it and yes, there are those with plenty that are very generous. I'm talking about what seems typical based on my life's experience.
There has necessarily been a lot of interruptions during this post that I started at least 3 hours ago. As a result, I'm finding I have to get it done. So, I'll maybe add more tomorrow if anyone is even interested.
Before submitting the post though, I'll prematurely add a bit ...
1 Timothy 6:
7 *For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 *And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
Philippians 4:
11 *Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 *I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Job 1:
21 *... Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
22 *In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
heh-heh ... just had another 40 minute interruption. Good night friends.

$5.65? Wow .. is that a "convenience store" price or a regular store? Some folks pay more for stuff at a convenience store that is closer rather than using gasoline to go further and get the i.e. milk, cheaper because the cheaper milk plus gasoline is more expensive than less gas and more for the milk.

Our food expenses are getting higher, so we are cutting back. Hard to do with a teenage boy who eats enough for three adults.......
I'm thinking about a garden, if I could just get rid of the japanese beetles that have devoured my rose garden every year for 3 years. (i finally gave up, rose bushes are so expensive).
We may have to go back to the 'old grandma days' where my grandparents (in the 50 and 60's) canned all their veggies and fruits and stuff like that. This would make it possible to have more money to spend on things like milk and eggs, (no i'm not buying a cow and chickens), and less on fresh veggies in the summer. But living in Michigan, we only have a few months of harvest for a garden, so its not going to be a huge savings.
Its going to be interesting in the next few years if our Lord doesn't rapture us.
Time to tighten the belt in more ways then one.
God Bless You all.
