There is an easy wasy to save hundreds on grocery shopping... use coupons. I play the Grocery Game and have a pantry *full* of brand name, good quality stuff and my bathroom cupboard is full of deo, shampoos, toothpastes, soaps etc that I paid next to nothing for.

We're hurting financially due to some recent changes, and I am convinced that the Lord turned me onto this so that we can make ends meet. I never buy things we don't need or don't eat. Just match the coupons with the sales in the store flyers, and with some stores doubling and tripling coupons, many things end up being pennies or even free. There are milk coupons available too. I would never have bought Schepps on a regular basis before, but now I do as the coupons and the good price in CVS works out great!

There is a website out there that will do all the hard work of matching the coupons for you so you know which coupon to use where, but it can be done yourself with a little effort. On a Sunday, get the major paper, which can have several coupon inserts and the store flyers, and away you go! I buy two papers and the vendor gives me extra coupon inserts so I can get several items at a time :)

Seriously, take the time to investigate this... you can save a ton of money!

couponing doesn't work here. I gave up. It is cheaper to just buy off brand. No store doubles coupons around here. Coupon in fliers are bare, mostly advertisements. And stores around here hardly put the things on sale that I have a coupon for.

Most be great to live in an area that does double or triple the coupons

I paid $1.70 for a dozen eggs last night. My mouth about hit the floor when I saw the price. Over $4 a gallon for milk, and $2.85 for a gallon of gas.

And, how much was my raise?

That's a shame. Some people have friends and family save and send them coupons, some buy from from ebay... I know, it sounds crazy. But I looked out of curiosity and ended up buying 15 x $1 cat food coupons for a total of $1.50 inc. postage.

The sales and coupons in most areas are engineered together and some store fliers will even point you to where the coupons are. Out of curiosity, which area are you in?

Well, yes. Our grocery bill is less than half of what it used to be as we stockpile when the sales are on (only what we eat and not stupid amounts like those crazy people that have a cases and cases of coffee...). The only 'needs' we have to get regularly are milk, bread, meat and produce and I have coupons for most of that too!

Locust and honey anyone? Great! Just great! Is there a substitute for the locusts? :) Maybe soy locust? :) IF your point really was that we (Americans) could simplify our diets to save money, cool. I not only would agree with that, but do agree with that.

And, how much was my raise? Not to worry. Some keep telling us that wages keep up with inflation. :)

Let's see ... rising prices is merely a symptom of inflation where inflation, is actually an increase in the money supply especially at a higher rate than GNP. It is currently about 14%. Anyone getting 14% raises out there?

Don't you people know that we don't include the cost of food or fuel in inflation? I mean, get with the program already! ;)

My husband recently was complaining about how expensive a simple loaf of bread has become.

I told him not to forget about how expensive a gallon of milk is! We may just have to go to powdered milk...I seriously think that it would go a lot ****her. I don't know how it tastes. Most people say it tastes terrible...but how many people have really tried it?

But, back to the topic: my husband has finally taken over most of the grocery shopping because he is so thrifty...He can spend about 1/2 as much as I do. And it counts. He buys almost all off-brand stuff, which is good.

I think it's only going to get worse as far as the prices of food. Next year we're planting a vegetable garden.

Don't know why there are asterisks in my post.
