Don't you people know that we don't include the cost of food or fuel in inflation? I mean, get with the program already! ;)

I'm not up on economics, I assume the reason is that food and fuel are unnecessary luxuries?

I find shopping for food discouraging and a little scary any more. I stand there at the meat section with a blank look staring at the prices trying to find some kind of meat that we can afford. I'm starting to look at roadkill a little more thoughtfully. A big deer was on the side of the road the other day and I thought hmmm...

But then I come here and get the giggles over what the filter puts asteriks in...****her...tee hee :lol2

Yep, as long as you don't eat, use any form of transportation, or need a place to live, there is NO inflation! So quit complaining already...you don't need a raise! :rolleyes

I LOVE my milk!! I can't give it up so instead of milk for my son's cereal, I tried wine....could be a solution...then we won't be so poor, just drunk!

powdered milk is offensive - have you tried it? really, it is awful.

Ya know how a lot of people get a feeling inside to stockpile? maybe it's not that they will need it for if/when war breaks out but to help in times of inflation. In my whole life i have never bought many canned items and last week i bought about 50 cans of soups, stews, fruits and vegetables. Someone could have warned me that peaches cost more than $4/can!

(I am kidding about my son, btw)

I went to the local Wallyworld the other night...now I do not grocery shop..DH does it cuz I hate to, anyway, a gallon of milk $3.50, a box of cereal $3.99, etc. I bought almost nothing and ended up spending $40.00! I couldn't believe how packaging has changed..much smaller packing and higher price! Ah..this is not good!

I was buying radishes that were 50. a bundle, when I counted how many radishes I'm getting for .50 there were only 10. Thats five cents a radish. A little steep for a nickel size vegi. :rolleyes

On another board I visit where we talk about 'grocery gaming', i.e. using coupons, there is a discussion about how much we spend on groceries now compared to what we used to spend before doing the grocery game. I used to spend about $600 pm (not inc. eating out) and now spend no more than $300. My family would not be eating well right now if were not for the great deals I get.

Another person told how her husband added up all the stuff they used to buy weekly and discovered that what they used to spend $120 on (pre-game) would now cost them about $200 if they weren't gaming.

Also, with all of the recalls on food these days (you know there was another e-coli recall on salad in the last week?), it certainly does make sense to grow your own.

time to plan your gardens for next year and if you dont know how go to a master gardener in your local area and they can help you get started get to know someone who knows how to can. If in a apartment try a local gardener and share in the work and share in the food, that is start planning know for this spring get your seeds so you can do a start and have fun a little dirt under the nails will make you feel good!!!

I always found coupons readily available for "foods" loaded with preservatives and artificial colors and flavors.

Have things changed?

I would love to use coupons for foods like pasta, spaghetti sauce, etc. I don't believe you can find any for meat, cheese and milk.

I just may have to get a Sunday paper and see for myself.
