First off, I would like to personally thank all of you who have been on this journey of Rapture Ready Radio with us. The show has grown and changed a lot since April and many of you have been a big part of that. God bless you for your time and efforts. Now here is a brief summary about me and my history.
I was born in Kansas City in 1976. Yes, the doctor was smoking in the delivery room. My mother's name is Janet and my father's name is Gary. I was born Gary Matthew Cordonier. Growing up, my family was completely and utterly dirt poor and some of my earliest memories were my parents asking people for financial help and the constant fighting and arguing over bills and money. My dad worked at a Christian Radio Station for a time and I remember being in there and playing with the old switch boards and telling my self, one day I will be on the radio too!
When I was just five years old I had tubes put in my ears and we went right from the hospital to the side of roads to collect cans. My ears were very sensitive and a fire truth went by with full sirens blaring. This was very painful and I all wanted to do was go home, but we could not. Not until we gathered enough money for dinner. Despite our struggles, my parents did show me God's love and explained to me the plan of salvation. My younger brother Daniel was born when I was six years old. When I was 8 years old, I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior one day before school. I was so excited and told all my friends about Jesus and His love. Unfortunately, it was becoming more and more clear as I got older that my parents did not love each other, but they both loved me.
When I was 12 years old, my parents got divorced and several months later my mother remarried. My father moved to Independence Mo and my mother moved in with my step father in Kansas City Ks. With my mom and step father I was taken to a lawyer an he asked me to make decision on who I wanted to live with. He told me not to answer now, just think about it and let my parents know when I got home.
I went to the back yard to pray and think about this. Not only was this a big decision for a 12 year to make, I was very afraid that someone would be heart broken. My step father came outside and asked me "Who is it going to be?"
I told him that I wanted to live with my father. He then told me how much this will break my mom's heart and how terrible this decision was. I felt so terrible that I changed my mind.
My father was upset, but he said he understood. Plus, I still got to see him on the weekends. I will never forget just waiting at the end of the drive way for him to come get me and my brother. My name was change to Matthew Buff. That was that.
Dad made it fun on the weekends, but eventually, he could no longer afford the child support payments, and he was forced to sign us kids over to mom for good. I told him that when I was 18, I would be coming back. He was upset and we said goodbye for one last weekend.
Years later, I found out that he would leave Christmas presents and phone calls that we never got.
After several years of abuse and verbal abuse, I had just about enough. When I was seventeen, just a couple weeks from turning 18, I got a phone call from my father. No one else was home and I was completely overjoyed to speak with him. I told him that after I turned 18 that I would come and leave with him. He was excited to hear this and we caught up on things and then said goodbye. Little did I know, this would be the last time I would ever talk to him again. After hanging up the phone I called my youth pastor Brett and we went to Dairy Queen to talk about my plan. He said he would stand by me and help make this transition easier. I turned 18 on January 20th 1994. A couple weeks after my birthday while I was waiting to hear from dad, my stepfather and mom brought me upstairs and told me to have a seat at the kitchen table. They informed me rather nonchalantly that my Father was dead. They told me that he had committed suicide in his apartment.
I was devastated and heart broken. My youth pastor came and got me and took my to a restaurant where I cried for hours. When I went to dad's apartment to see what happened, there were pictures of me and my brother all over the coffee table. There was also a dating form that he had filled out and in the comments field he put the word "loneliness". At the funeral, a lady whom I had never met before came up to me and said you must be Matthew. She sang in the choir with my father and he talked about me and my brother all the time. Not too long after that, I moved out of the house and went to live with my grandparents. Something inside of me snapped when my father died. I ran for class president of my Senior Year and won. After high school
I joined the Army and served two years in Ft Lee Virginia, Ft Leonard Wood Mo and Ft Hood TX. I got out of the army and moved to Lawrence Ks. and was determined to drink and party away my life. I started doing stand up comedy and met my wife Christy at a job I had in Lawrence when I was 27. She started joining me on the road and we traveled all over the country doing comedy at different clubs and casinos. In 2003, our first son Jordan was born and I decided to quit comedy and slow down my lifestyle. Christy and I were married in 2005 and decide to move and start a new life in Kansas City, where it all began. Our second son, Jacob was born in 2007 and since I was no longer doing a comedy tour I started a comedy radio show called the Buffman and Wrench Show. Also, I organized the largest support the troops rally in US history on 7-7-07. This was in honor of my brother who served two tours in Iraq. You might have heard of this http://www.operationamericarising.com/mission.html, it was a rally that went on in 26 states at the same time. Check it out on You Tube. After about a year I decided that I needed something more in my life. I had a great family and a great house but I was not letting go of things in my past and not letting God take control of my life. Soon the radio show ended and I rededicated my life to Jesus Christ. I wanted to use the leadership and talent that God has given me for his use from now on. Since I was a huge fan of Rapture Ready, I contacted Todd in February 2009 about creating a show called Rapture Ready Radio. I built the website and got material and guests together and The show officially launched in April 2009. People have come and went on the show, but it continues to grow. My goal for this show is to grow for the Glory of God to five or six shows a week that supports missions and reaching the lost. It is important for us to cover the politics that impact prophecy and keep a close eye on Israel. We strive to continue Learning about Christ together with new Christians and studying prophecy as we are in these final days. I believe that the Bible is the literal, infallible Word of God and that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who died for our sins so that we could spend eternity with Him. I also believe it our duty to participate in the great commission and I have so much fun learning about God with you and talking about His truth and the soon return of Jesus Christ. There was a time when I was lost and drowning in sin. Jesus pulled me out of darkness ad into the light. If you are lost, no matter where you are in life, He can do the same for you.
Romans 3:23, 24
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Now we need to go out and spread His Word to all people!
Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
My brother is now married and has a brand new baby boy, Daniel Matthew. My mom and step father have four other children and we have put our past to rest and forgiveness abides throughout. My son Jordan is six and Jacob is now 2. My wife Christy does Spiritual Healing on Rapture Ready Radio and we have been married for four years.
When I go to my father's grave in Ft Leavenworth, Ks, I tell him that I will see him again one day soon.
God bless,
Matt Buff
