Does anyone have experience with either of these?

Gems = http://gemsgc.gospelcom.net/

American Heritage = http://www.ahgonline.org/

We are looking for something as an alternative to girl scouts for our almost 7 year old girl.

Also looking for a good Christian boys type club.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Our daughter participated in American Heritage girls for two years before taking a break. She really enjoyed it. If you have any questions, let me know. It is a great program, just make sure you find an active troop.

Our neice is in GEMS and I can find out how well she likes it, if you want.

We're joining our local AHG this fall -- can't wait! :yeah

Venture Scouts and 4-H may be availabe to you. I have found a group is normally only as good as the people who participate in it. You may have to look for the right group/troop. It does gives you the opportunity to "shine".

AWANA may be another option.

We did AWANA this past year but I wanted something for my girly girl that is more like the girl scouts with projects, community service, camp outs, etc. Also wanted it Christ based. We don't have either AH or GEMS near us so we would be starting our own group up. Just wondering about any other feedback before we choose.

Also looking for something for our 8 year old boy. We live in suburbs near Detroit so there are no 4H that I know of near us. Not too many farms around here - LOL

Exactly the same for us. Awana is great, but sort of one-dimensional (nothing wrong with memorizing scripture up the wazoo).

I *sort of* thought that Gems was affiliated with a Reformed Calvanist doctrine church, but maybe that's not the case (?). So that only churches would start them as oppposed to individuals? I'm basing this on my neice, who is in Gems through their Reformed church. If it were me, I'd go for the AHG.

I checked Gems out a little more and still prefer AHG based on what I see (it's just my opinion). Seems more "cutesie" compared to AHG. Are there other parents interested in either who would be joining you and have an opinion about which one to start?
