View Full Version : Do You Play Online Games More Than You Pray and Study The Word?

I used to be addicted to "Star Wars: Battlefront II". I would play online for up to 6 or 7 hours at a time. More than my Prayer and Bible-reading and study suffered - almost every other aspect of my life was affected, and this was pointed out to me in my spirit.

One day, after prayer and much meditation, I stopped playing it.

Period.

And I have no desire to play online anymore.

Now, my health is improving, my stress level is down, and my prayer and Bible Study time are both much better.

Is online gaming controlling you?

Yep, I'm not really a gamer but I used to enjoy playing Sid Miers Civilization in the 90's and wasted way too much time with it. A couple hours could turn into a weekend, then I'd find myself thinking about it at work.

Relaxation is important but that kind of self absorption should be worrisome.

What about the games with all the occult references and gore?
I see them discussed on this board, and I feel very convicted and concerned about those involved in this.

Yeah, I'm in an interesting discussion in "The Men's Room" forum about the Lord Of The Rings movies, books, and games.

I believe I have struck a nerve. It was not my intention to offend anyone - merely to open a discussion about something which can take hold and consume people, especially Christian Believers who think it is something that it is not.

Not only has online gaming hurt cadet careers (or ended them), it becomes so absorbing in our small amounts of free time that we tend to keep playing, just for that instant gratification.

I've wasted countless weekends on online games like Command and Conquer, and I have nothing to show for it except procrastination on future projects and less Bible study time.

For anyone that has problems with gaming addictions, know that they can be conquered with a little well-spent time with the Bible and some quality chat with Jesus. :thumbup

I enjoy playing video games, and find that when my mind just gets so full from learning and other stuff, its nice to play for a little. I have no problem with addiction and usually on the max out I will play for an hour. I treat it the same as playing sports or watching T.V. However, it is by no means a replacement for the bible, and for prayer and talking with God. I do find though that sometimes I will spend more time on things such as video games than in the word, and it's a trigger to let me know to get closer to God. However, I believe that it is not wrong or evil, but when it becomes idolatry, then it's an issue.
