I don't understand the lists, numbers, track colors, or know where half of the foreign places are... :idunno
But never a problem, thanks to your continued explanations, yogi. :thankyou2
:wave ETH
Yep, Yogi has really done us a service here. One thing for sure, it does not matter if we understand all the data or not.....the earth moving and shaking is a pretty non-complex thing to comprehend....:lol2

When I was checking the usgs from my pc at work today, I did notice that, yogi. Sure looks like something could be "in the works". Also, the unusual quakes in Ohio and Utah...although small.

It looks like later in the day things got back to a more normal mix of magnitudes. But it will still be a higher average magnitude and percentage of higher to lower magnitudes anyway,
Due to the recent trouble the USGS seems to be having getting their information completely up to date in a timely fashion I am going to delay my updates for at least another hour beyond normal to be sure I don't have to go back and edit everything.

The high number of higher magnitude events we started out with at the beginning of the UTC day leveled back off to give a pretty much normal mix for the entire day. There was a little increase in the 4.0 to 5.9 level events but the lower mix level at the end of the day almost wiped out the early increase.
I am going to digress from the usual subject matter of these updates for a minute. Bear with me please.
If you have been following the events in the gulf and the fear mongering reports you must realize that most of it, while possible, is not all that likely to happen as bad as predicted by the fear mongerers.
But if they are right then the volcanic eruption, earthquakes, and tsunami causing sea floor collapse would trigger the biggest natural disaster in all of human history.
If they are right then the third of the sea becoming as a dead mans blood and killing all the life in the affected areas is not too far a reach.
If there were a massive collapse of the sea floor and a resultant tsunami I would have to wonder if I were far enough away in the north suburbs of Atlanta Ga. to escape at least some of the consequences.
If any of that happens then the entirety of everything I have posted in these updates from day one would be insignificant by comparison. In fact it would be so bad if a major part of it happened that the only ones who would be affected by it would be the left behind remnant of humanity.
Now back on topic. Whats with those two Utah and one Lake Erie Ohio quakes. None of the three is very big but they are in places we usually don't see activity of a high enough magnitude to make this list.
We did pick up one new location I have not seen before. that would be the Owen Fracture Zone event.

Where is that Owen Fracture Zone place anyway? :glasses You bring up a good point about our situation in the Gulf. I have seen some posts both here and on PF where people don't think that is a possibility, but the way you put it does make sense.

Go back to my daily update and click on the word "map" at the beginning of the line for the Owen Fracture. That will pull up a USGS map. Also, if you click on the "date and time" entry for the event you will pull up a bunch of data on the event. This applies to all my listings for the last few months. The word map amd the date time listing for each event is a hot link to the map and the data sheet for that event.

Another fairly calm day today. We dropped a couple of locations and picked up a couple but nothing major.
The Baja/SoCal area continues to be the single most active area but not by nearly as much as it was just after the initial quake.
The good news is that none of the recent quakes, even the 6.0 & over ones, have caused much damage and little or no loss of life. This is something to be thankful for in a world being beset by the gulf disaster and the Israeli situation. At least the volcanic and earthquake activity isn't adding to the ills of the world.
