Folks help me out...okay prior to the 2004 Tsunami, when a large quake hit, there were no Tsunami's or no warnings....:scratch. But I assume such quakes did produce them, or did they not?

But now, we are hearing more of these Tsunami warnings with each large quake.....what changed? :scratch

When the 2004 tsunami hit, and where it hit, there were no ocean placed sensors to detect the tsunami in the places it hit. This tsunami is crossing the Pacific ocean, where NOAA( National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) does have monitoring devises.

I'm on high ground on Oahu waiting to see what happens. Sirens woke us up at 6am this morning. Here is a live streaming news link if noone posted it yet. Haven't read thread yet. Just been filling up buckets and jugs with water and listenign to the radio.

Very scary...to wake up to sirens!! I'm watching the news right now and the it looks like the tsunami has raised the ocean 3 feet on the coast.....they said it wasn't bad so far. I pray it doesn't get worse:pray

Like white water rapids...the Oceanographer speaking now, just said there could be a large wave a some time and that there was "damage" in Ventura California!

Yep, here is what they reported:

Here is a map of the path and timing of the tsunami wave. I believe that the dark lines are one hour each.

When I first heard the siren, my first thought was "What is that, is that the siren? Then "Is it Monday? The first of the month? (When they test them)
My next thought was what a drag, they went off an hour before I planned to get up. lol
But, we LIVE on high ground, so all we had to do was sit tight and turn on the radio. I was concerned for others near the coast or in high rises near the coast etc. I heard about someone that moved to a higher story in their apt building because the roads were jammed. That would be scary.
We did have some bizarre water movement that amazed people but nothing big. Waiting for an all clear signal now. Not sure if that will be in the next hour or what. No TV, so just watching the link I sent in. :-)
