With exception of the 6.0 Philipines quake it has been another mild day with a short list to report. Chile does continue to have some moderate to strong aftershocks that could be cause for concern but at least it is not the massive numbers we saw for so long after the main quake.

North Chile hit by 6.2 quake, no damage reported - http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE62P33V20100326


(Reuters) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 hit quake-battered Chile on Friday but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The quake was centered about 49 miles south of the northern city of Copiapo at a depth of 21.7 miles. It was felt slightly in Santiago.

"There are no preliminary reports of any damage," a spokesman at Chile's National Emergency Office ONEMI said.

Chile's Navy said there was no tsunami alert. Local radio said businesses and schools near Copiapo evacuated children and staff as a precaution.

Chile's state copper giant Codelco, the world's top producer of the red metal, said none its mining operations had been affected.

Hundreds were killed and parts of south-central Chile lie in ruins from the February 27 quake that set off tsunamis and powerful aftershock.

The February quake was the fifth strongest on record since 1900 and as expected has produced hundreds of aftershocks, most minor but two of 6.9 magnitude -- nearly as strong as the 7.0 quake that devastated Haiti.

The RSOE-EDIS map for south america (http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php?area=dam&lang=eng) shows two 5.7 events almost on top of the 6.2 and only seperated by a few seconds in time.

I checked both maps.....pretty quiet today. And on the IRIS one, it is the quietest I have seen in weeks...just 4 quakes so far. It's almost too quiet if you ask me...

Yes I have been watching this all day and it makes me a little nervous. Carlsbad NM just had 4.3.

As Coco & cali said, it has been a very quiet day. No 5.0 or over quakes for the day, but the second one on the list I will post tomorrow is a 5.0 and the first one of the new UTC time day is the Carlsbad one Cali mentioned.

Even though I will include them in tomorrow's posting I still left the two from the new day in this post.

You know I truly do admit I am use to "watching" the activity these days. However, that is something that formed more from recent events, whereas I watch for Jesus constantly-- and that is something formed out of the desire of my heart.
