SANTIAGO (BNO NEWS) -- A strong earthquake struck central Chile on Friday, seismologists said. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 6.1-magnitude earthquake at 6.03 a.m. local time was centered about 65 kilometers (41 miles) south of Concepcion. It struck about 35 kilometers (21.7 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The NOAA Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially measured the strength of the earthquake at 6.0 on the Richter scale.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries and no tsunami warnings were issued.

Of course California dominates this list just like it does the list I usually post from. But in second place is Arkansas with quite a few that are below the cuttoff point for my regular list. I am going to have to check it out and see if they are in a part of AK that is near the New Madrid fault zone.

Chile earthquake magnitude revised to 6.1

The RSOE site now has it at 5.9. I don't know if they have downgraded it or if they just haven't caught up with the upgrade. We will know by the end of the UTC day though; and it still is a strong one for an area that has already suffered so much.

and seeing the pattern from the US-Mexico border all the way up to Yellowstone. The smaller quakes appear unusually patterned from what I am used to seeing since I started monitoring the site over 3 years ago.

Have you guys noticed it too? Or am I just losing what little mind I have left?

There is not a lot of change over the last few days except that we have three new quakes in Hawaii that have been big enough (2.5 & over) to make this list.

I also just checked Yellowstone and there are only four events on the recent event map and the biggest is only 1.3 mag.

I get nervous when things stabilize too much for too long. It seems that when you start geting used to the status quo something happens to upset the apple cart, literally.

Yep....

And today when I got home there was a construction crew outside my apartment digging up the middle of our street...apparently a water main busted. So, no water, but I had already brought home food and I have jugs of bottled water. But anyway, so they are using all these machines and that jack-hammer thing...and do I even need to tell you what that sounds and feels like....my nerves are nice and jumpy right now....:lol2
