Tsunami NOT expected along U.S. West Coast, B.C., and AK
USGS says doesn't expect damage from magnitude 6.7 quake that struck between Alaska and Russia in the Bering Sea
It looks like this one is a bullet we dodged. It is in open ocean far enough from land to not cause any damage to populated areas. But the shallow depth would have made this one a killer if it had been in a densly populated part of the world.

Sorry, too late. there was a 6.7 just minutes ago in the Bering Sea. I knew it was too quiet to last.
glad I wasn't at my desk for that screen shaker !!!

Looks like there were two quakes in the same area...one a 6.3-magnitude, the other a 6.0-magnitude.

Two strong earthquakes strike off Alaskan island; no tsunami threat - http://wireupdate.com/wires/3488/two-strong-earthquakes-strike-off-alaskan-island-no-tsunami-threat/
NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- Two strong earthquakes struck minutes apart off an Alaskan island on Friday afternoon, seismologists said.
The first earthquake at 2.11 p.m. local time had a 6.3-magnitude and was centered about 170 miles (274 kilometers) west of St. Matthew Island in the U.S. state of Alaska. It struck about 9.4 miles (15.1 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially measured the strength of the earthquake at a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale.
The second earthquake, at 2.16 p.m. local time, had a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale and struck only miles from the epicenter of the first earthquake.
The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center, as well as the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, said there was no tsunami threat following the earthquakes.
There were no reports of damage or casualties.

Today's sponsor is the "Evolution revolution Society"; Robert Irwin (R. I.) Diculous - President.
Our "Mission" is to gloat and rub it in ever since Charles Darwin wrote his book "On the Origin of Species".
(what do you mean he recanted his findings before he died, come on now you can't prove that one, can you?)
We have the Piltdown Man (what do you mean it wasn't even a true hominid?) Ok we will give you that one.
But we still have Lucy (you say that one was a hoax made up of bones from different beings from different locations) OK OK OK so we will give you that one too.
However, we do have the progression of species from simple to complex to man himself and that proves evolution OK OK AGAIN, so we don't have any true transitionals, so what, just look at all the changes in the species over the millennia. NO NO DON"T GO THERE, that was our last hope to prove you Christian Creationist nut jobs wrong and now you tell me that unless we can come up with those pesky transitionals all we can prove is adaptation. And adaptation has never led to a new species.
Look, is it too late to pull this ad until we can gather more made up data to bolster our position. What do you mean it has already been posted to the web, OH $&*^%%!!!!
Maybe I should just go to church like my wife has been insisting on for the last ten years and study the bible. SIGH!!!!
==============================================
Me and my big mouth, go figure. I posted earlier in the day that it was looking like an extremely quiet day in the making at a little over half the UTC day. Then we get 2 6.0 or over events within minutes of each other in the Bering sea. And yet, without the bering Sea events we would still have had a very quiet day since we didn't even have a single 5.0 to 5.9 event and except for the Bering Sea we had nothing over 4.5.
