The 6.0 Indonesia quake will be the lead event in tomorrow's posting. But it has already been downgraded to 5.8.

Figi is the most active today with the highest magnitude event at 5.9 and a second earlier event at 4.9.

Otherwise there have been many reductions in the counts for today's update.

Yogi, the Indonesian quake wasn't downgraded. The USGS recorded it as a 5.8 and local seismologists (more accurate) recorded it at a 6.0-magnitude.

Then the RSOE listing should reflect that for tomorrow's update. If not I will look into it further.

Where does the RSOE gather their earthquake information from? Local sources, or is it all from the USGS? I've never really used the RSOE website. I'm guessing they just "scrape" the information from the USGS, but I could be completely wrong.

The RSOE site is part of the USGS so they reflect the USGS data.

The reason I use it is because it does capture the big stuff while keeping the size of the list for my daily updates down to a managable number of events.

I would consider switching sites except that it would change the mix of what I post too much since I have been using RSOE from the beginning of my daily updates.

Besides, if a really big event did happen a tenth of a point or two would be just splitting hairs anyway when the body count starts rising.

Indonesia certainly seems to be the hot spot for now.

Agreed

Yeah, that's kind of a stark truth!

But it surely seems something is up today. We had a couple of smalls one here in CA, but what I found interesting is that earlier there was a story about 10 foot waves off Newport Beach. I didn't post it because it just wasn't that interesting, but in light of the increased earth movement, I remembered it.

It looks like Puerto Rico will be the hot spot in todays daily update as long as nothing else upstages it.

There have been 13 events at the time of this posting and we still have 4 1/2 hours to go.

They are.....
