I'm wondering that too, after Resurrection Sunday's quake . I'm putting 'earthquake- hold' putty on all our breakables (yes, there really is such a thing for sale here in Ca. :lol2).
Baja/SoCal quakes - 27
Central California quakes - 4
California total - 31
Quakes that happened after 17:00 (5:00) PM of the UTC day - 25
That means that for the whole 24 hour UTC day 25 of the 31 total events happened in the last 6 hours of the UTC day. Only 6 happened in the previous 18 hours. Something is heating back up.

California has become active again in the central to Baja/SoCal area. And again I must stress, this increased activity (unless it gets much worse) is nothing compared to the 300 to 400 events a day just after the 8.0 Baja Mexico/SoCal quake.
The statistics from my previous post are still the same. Here they are so that they will be in the update as well.

There were two quakes, a 4.8 & 4.9, that seem to have been the kick start for the end of the day spate of activity. Did any of our Southern California members feel either of them???

OK I know I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, but does it look like possibly California is getting ready for another bigger earthquake?
Shh! don't say that! :hide
:lol2 did you see the post I made earlier, about the guy predicting earthquakes? He predicts that a 7.-something is going to happen on May 20-something...I forgot the exact date and I'm too lazy to look back at the moment... :hehee I think he said May 23-24?

:pound...Oh Nancy, that was a good one, never heard that before.
....did you see the post I made earlier, about the guy predicting earthquakes?
Okay, look if that guy turns out to be correct, then I'm gonna owe him an apology for calling him a quack....but then again, if he is correct, I don't suppose it will much matter....
But just for the record, we have been through this shake-n-bake pattern many times and CA remains solid.....so no worries please :hug

I really don't take the guy seriously, I think he probably just has some method that he has been using and it may have been correct a few times simply by coincidence. :lol2 I hope a strong earthquake doesn't happen, but we'll see. :hide

Yeah, but you know it is interesting that we are getting all these high waves and such. A 18 footer earlier..... I've no doubt that the oceans and land is stirring about...even our winds have been really strong. So, it would not surprise me in the least....I just don't fret over it.
But you know Zero, if a newsworthy quake for CA or any of our US states should occur, well-- guess who is gonna be working overtime?....:heh... Heck, folks will probably start PM'ing you for info....:lol2

I'll be ready for it! :lol2 We'll have double the reporting now that Megan has joined the team.
Speaking of earthquakes and being ready for them, a few days ago I was chatting with someone on MSN Instant Messenger, talking about earthquakes...and near my house they have a rock quarry where they sometimes drill and plant dynamite to blast for more rocks. Well, I was talking to my friend about earthquakes and as soon as I typed "earthquake" they blasted up there! and when they blast, it shakes the house...a couple of weeks ago they did a REALLY strong blast, strongest one they ever have and it was very loud and shook the house worse than any other time. I can only imagine how an earthquake feels... :hehee it was weird though, typing "earthquake" and then immediately you hear a loud boom and the house shaking... :hide :panic

:lol2
You know, something like that happened to me when they were digging up the street in front of my apartment....I had that quaky shaky thingy activated-- and when the crew started with the jack-hammer, there was a quake and it shook my screen at the same time...talk about an odd sensation.....and actually my nerves were a bit frayed that night...they had all this machinery out and noise going on...had there been a quake I probably would have just thought it was them ripping the street apart and not even moved a muscle...:doh

If the New Madrid is gonna give us a big shaking, I know Zerozx and Megan will let me know before it happens. :pound
You know this is true....did you see the thread where Megan was in school when she got a quake text? They know before the local and national news even do! :lol2

The Baja/SoCal area seems to be slowing back down from the previous days activity level. However, there were two central California quakes so far and they came 11 minutes apart. They are still low magnitude but how do you say "the zipper is opening". Is it possible that they are the precursors to another bigger quake??? I hope not, and it is still too early to make a prediction based on the data, but I do see at least the start of a trend in central to southern California.
