Churches issue new invitation to Lamott

An author known for her spiritual writing will speak in Omaha after all.

Anne Lamott had been invited by Creighton University to speak Sept. 19 at the Joslyn Art Museum, only to have the invitation withdrawn.
She will instead speak that day at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Creighton officials said they withdrew the invitation after concerns were raised that Lamott's views on assisted suicide and abortion were not consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

heard about the cancellation of Lamott's talk, she immediately contacted the author's publicist and "things just quickly fell into place," she said.
"Anne Lamott's writing has just meant a great deal to me," Brink said.
"I think she really connects with average people who struggle with meaning and real life."
The Holland Center holds 2,000 people, Brink said, which will allow more people to hear Lamott.
Seating at Joslyn would have allowed about 1,200 to attend.
The event, titled: "Faith and Writing and Whatever: A Night With Anne Lamott," is being sponsored by Connections, a coalition of churches that also includes
