i have managed to lose a good deal of weight in the last three months and would like to supplement it with some sort of stretching, non-impact, low weight form of exercise.... something that has a routine and such. something that i can kinda do in the morning or afternoon, basically on autopilot. (i work odd retail hours sometimes)
i was thinking of looking into Pilates, but before i waste any time on it, i want to make sure it dosen't come with any unwanted spiritual baggage like yoga does.
anyone know for sure that it does not? and if it does, just tell me and i will look for something else :)

If you have the QVC home shopping channel, they sell pilates machines on there. The lady who does the show is in phenominal shape. She was on there when she was pregnant doing it, it is so low impact. She looked GREAT! It seems like she in in her late 40's now and looks like she's in her twenties.
There didn't seem to be any type of spiritual stuff like some associate with yoga. The whole pilates principle is working on the body "core". That if you work on this core that it supports the whole body and helps tone and strengthen all the other muscles. It seems to involve alot of slow movements.
I would love to have one of those machines, but don't have the extra 270.00 or so that they cost. I have seen workout videos in the stores for pilates that do not require any equipment.
Good luck if you decide to try it. I am just always facinated with it when I see it on QVC. It seems to work really well even for people that have had injuries.

I have been doing Pilates for a year now along with power walking and I have lost 102 pounds. It really does work. I don't see anything spiritual with it at all.

I think pilates is a great form of exercise and agree that it does not have any negative spiritual connection that we are aware of. It was developed by a US prisoner of war to keep himself in shape during captivity. It is not associated with a religion. Great job on the weight loss!!!!! I'm working on it too!!:thumb

Congratulations, Suzanne, on your successful weight loss. I'm a WW member, but would enjoy hearing about the food program you were on when you were losing the weight. Also, what are Pilates?
Thanks.

awesome, thanks! i am so glad. there are so many things relating to weight loss and self health that are basically eastern pseudo/religious 'science'
i didn't want to fall into some trap. :)

Wow! That is great that you have lost so much weight! Do you do Pilates at home or at a studio? Also, are you following a diet plan of any sort? (sorry for being so nosy :) I just need to lose some pounds too!)

My daughter has been on Pilates for a couple of years. She's in better shape than she ever has been, she's lost about 40 pounds, and she says she feels great. Nothing spiritual - just good solid exercise that's fairly low impact.
Good luck.
