Court bans Christian cross on private land in public park
Thu Sep 6, 3:45 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The U.S. government cannot trade a parcel of land to private hands to allow a Christian cross to remain in the middle of a vast federal preserve, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Thursday.

At issue is the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which bars the government from favoring any one religion, as it applies to a lone white metal Latin cross in the Mojave National Preserve in southern California between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

This summer I went a couple of days to Switzerland for my holiday and one day I was up in the mountains near the Matterhorn (Well-known high mountain covered with snow). There were buildings with a restaurant and some shops and on the outside wall there were two plates. One had the second half of Rev.15:3 on it and a little poem about God and how the mountains praise Him and the other one had Psalm 111:2 and a saying that said: God's power to help you is so great, that He's always got a way and help for you (all in German,in that part of Switzerland their first language is German).I took a picture of each plate and I was pretty excited that these texts were there. If you'd put someting like that up here it most likely would get vandalized (if you would get permission at all).

That is the truth. Look at what our government did with the 10 commandments.

Amazing. They must have self-appointed atheists running around hunting for this stuff on every piece of government property so they can trash it.

As if they don't have anything better to do than operate some "Atheist Worldcleaning Service." Wouldn't be surprised if it's being done using our taxes.

Ridiculous. If they feel that bad when they see a cross, then maybe they should see a psychologist and get a phobia named after it.

Seriously, these are people who hate God.

Good answer Antitox. They should feel ridiculous about being so paranoid because of a cross or verse sitting somewhere in the U.S. As if it was going to cause them to catch on fire or something.

They don't have to participate in any of it, or even look at any of it, but they should be able to live and let live. They are just sick spirited people. And, they are a minority telling the majority we have to do everything their way.

It is easier to get away with putting pornography out for people to have to look at than it is to put the Ten Commandments out for people to look at.

Some folks think a cross is not different than an icon

Did you read in the article, where a man tried to erect a buddist shrine? If he had been allowed to do that, then we would be crying foul. Maybe the decision was made for a reason. No, there's nothing wrong with crosses, but if one religion is allowed to put up their signs and symbols, then all religions will have to be given the same privilege.

Imho since scripture seems to frown on images and symbols

as i understand it it does not bother me one bit

Yank them all down and put a bible in evey mans hand:)

What's next, sue the fire department for "endorsing a religion" because they put out a church fire?
