Paul preaching to the Athenians informs them "the times of this ignorance God winked at: but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent"
Acts 17:30

Our attitude toward mans inhumanity against fellow man, has changed over recent years. Rather than punish, we look for a reason. Why did this person do this? ect. How can society give help so that such can be avoided in the future?

Does our Heavenly Father continue to overlook sin?

Has repentance any place in the Christian message today?

read that verse carefully my friend...it said in times past...but now God commands that we repent. we are in a new dispensation. the dispensation of grace. however, we dont get the cure before we know we are sick, we dont get grace until we first acknowledge our sinfulness and need for a savior. we must repent to get the grace. look at all the exhortations to repent, to hold fast, to be steadfast, to stay away from sin, to be holy and pure, to ask forgiveness of sins. if it wasnt necessary, why the wasted words?

In this particular exchange, the context is Paul referring to the ignorance of the one and only God, and in that ignorance, men worshiped many things. The "winking" in this sense, is God knowing they did not know what or whom to worship properly. Jesus said sort of the same thing to the Samaritan woman, without really condemning for it...

22Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. 23For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 24God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Without repentance there can be no reconcilliation with God. Without Christ, there is no means by which to even approach the Father to repent and seek such reconcilliation. Without reconcilliation, there is no relationship, and without a relationship with God, there is no meaning to life.

Grace and Peace to you.

So many people just throw up a casual surface prayer asking for His forgiveness....and never see the seriousness of the offense to God or the deep importance of being RID of it! Sin is a total offense to our Holy God; He does nothttp://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u13/liasmileys/happy115.gif winkhttp://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u13/liasmileys/happy115.gif at any sin! We are to see it as He sees it so that we will deal with it as He would.

His love is consuming and He will take drastic measures
to draw you back. You have no excuse. He does nothttp://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u13/liasmileys/happy115.gif wink http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u13/liasmileys/happy115.gifat sin. Does not.....
condemn you either,
for His love is such that He will convict your heart to
draw you back and set your heart ablaze for Him once again. He is hungry for
your attention and your affection. Cast aside those things that would
take His place, for the intensity of His love is such that it will consume
all else until all that is left in your focus and line of vision is Jesus.
