:ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno

I was perusing Ynet news, when I found this:

Animal rights activists slam traditional practice of kaparot (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3450419,00.html)

I have never heard of the practice of "Kaparot". Apparently this involves taking a live chicken around one's head three times, symbolically transferring one's sins to the chicken. The chicken is then slaughtered and donated to the poor, preferably eaten at the pre-Yom Kippur feast.

I mean, is this for real? Some Jews do this? From what else I was able to glean from the internet it seems to be more of Kabbalist (not pop Kabbalism)
thing.

Well, they got it half right I guess, blood does provide atonement for our sins.....wrong blood though!

I am confused, for some reason, I thought chickens were considered unclean under the Law in the old Testament. I cant find that they are unclean, wonder what made me think that.

Lev. 11 and Deut. 14 contain kosher laws.

You may have thought chickens were unclean because I too remember vaguely about some other poultry being interpreted by some Rabbis as unclean other than what is listed specifically.
