I am desperate from info on the cheapest way to start homeschooling 3 kids. I am considering pulling my kids out of public school. I don't know if I have the sanity to do it though. My twin boys have Bi-Polar and really need the structured set up of school. Having said that, one of my boys was beat up AGAIN today for the 2nd time since school started. His nose is broken. He was covered in blood from head to toe when I picked him up. Long story short, I was not happy how any of it was handled or the Principle's attitude and answers. The Principle and I went at it. The boys go to an all boys middle school, which is the only one in our town. The school has a reputation for problems. The first time (same son), he came home (3rd day of school) with 2 black eyes, a busted mouth and a badly bruised temple. And the school never called me. Today, they didn't call me, my son did.

I cannot afford private school and really can't afford to order the homeschooling materials. If I do this, I will also have to really juggle things, as I work from home also.

I have always given others who homeschool so much respect and never thought this was something I could handle on so many levels. But, after today, I am seriously thinking about it. Any advice would be helpful.

On a side note of concern......after he called me, I got there within a couple minutes as we live one street from the school, there was NO ONE in ANY of the offices. Both of my sons were in front of the school watching for me and we searched and searched for someone and finally ran across their band teacher who seemed not too concerned and didn't help us find someone and went into some room. We finally found the Principle on the play ground and that is when the fireworks began. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE could have come into that school and done ANYTHING they wanted. The first thought that came into my mind is the threats we have been talking about here regarding the elementary and middle schools.

Needless to say, I am at my wits end today!!!!!

I'm also wanting to pull my girls out of Public School. The day before yesterday, my daughter asked a question about God in science class. She was told that this was not the place to talk about religion. The very next day the teacher was reading an article about artifacts and one of the artifacts was a buddha. One of the kids in class said, "I go to a Buddhist Church" and the teacher said, "how interesting" and then proceeded to ask questions about the child's Church??? :shocked I talked to both the teacher and the Principal, they don't get my comparison and how there is a double standard here? :idunno

My question is, how do you find others that are homeschooling in the area, so that there is some type of support. I just googled home school coop in my area and nothing. I know of no one who is homeschooling in my area. I go to a very small Church. I thought it would also be nice for my girls to get together with other kids that are home schooled. :heythere anyone live in Spokane, WA????

Beth, I Googled, Homeschool Spokane Washington and found this.

http://www.familylearning.org/

http://www.home-school.com/groups/WA.html

http://www.spokanevalleyonline.com/homeschooling.html

http://www.nshsc.org/

http://www.washhomeschool.org/whoQualify.html

There's more, but I just put a few. When you do searches for homeschooling, only put homeschool and then your city and state. You'll come up with more that way.

I am in Federal Way, Washington so unfortunately i'm on the other side of the state BUT... Don't know if it's much different there or not but here's a bit of info that might be helpful!

The WHO website -- http://www.washhomeschool.org/ they should be able to help you connect with some local groups/and conferences in your area.

Also in local areas they have HSA's Homeschool associations Look them up in your area as i can't find a website for Spokane or ask WHO about it..

The laws here are great if you didn't know.. It's extremely easy to homeschool in Washington -- All you need to do is file a declaration of intent; which can be picked up at the personnel office of your local school district or downloaded from the WHO site above; and then have them tested once a year like CAT or SAT testing -- and no one needs to see the results, there just for you to see your progress or what you might need to improve on next year or where you're doing well. We have a woman in the area that i go to for our testing so no need for the schools to be involved in that either.

It's not much info. but ihope it's helpful! :)

Hi - I'm a homeschooling mom - have always homeschooled my dd who is now "in" the 5th grade. She doesn't know any other way to school.

I just wanted to say that I think it is great the encouragement I've seen on this thread. I also found a couple of great links that I will use!

I'm fortunate that there is a huge homeschool network in my area and most of my dd's friends are homeschooled. I don't know if I would have the stamina to do it on my own.

I also do it real cheap... amblesideonline is my mainstay - however, it can look very overwhelming so I have modified it greatly to fit my dd. For instance - I'm not convinced she needs to read Shakespeare and Plutarch.

Hi. Sorry about your situation, that really stinks. I am not so good at having the links so I thought some words of encouragement may help you. Number 1 You can do this! Organization is key, and it doesn't take much to be organized. I do most of mine during summer vacation. Which gives you months! I have had alot of luck getting materials very cheaply off of ebay. I even think you will find your kids will learn a lot more in a lot less time with you doing the teaching. It is sooo much easier than it is made out to be! And above all your children will be safe. Don't think you can't do it, and take it to the Lord!
