The guy who predicted the fal of the Soviet Union like 10 years before it happened has predicted the break up of the USA into about 5 different countries. Of course, there will be the Texas Republic, but that's all I know. That will be my country. And Alaska will go back to Russia and Hawaii to Japan. Whatever happens happens I guess. Hopefully after the raptureeee (:

I believe we could win in Afghanistan, if our govt would untie the hands of our military, and take the gloves off.

I wanna move to TX.

The USA since WWII has had its hands tied.

There's no war that we couldn't win if it were left up to the professional warriors that actually fight the battles.

Instead, we have a govt of lawyers run by lawyers for lawyers litigating soldiers to death for pulling the trigger that killed the enemy---after the fact.

Agree, but this one is oh so difficult and yes, the military knows how. It would, I'm afraid, require us to do some pretty dark things to quickly win in this fashion....like some of the brutality we screamed our collective heads off at the Russians back when they were there.

Think about the enemy, not in a military uniform, living mostly in caves secluded in mountains and below civilian populations and mingling across international borders and population centers. How do you identify them from the population in general until the time they have their weapons and are actively using them on you?

Its much like my war. Mama San who is out there selling you a hot Coke in the middle of the jungle during the day may dig up her rifle and take a few pot shots at you that night and be back offering to help cook, for a price, bright and early the next morning.:thinking

Tactics get very gray....and in a hurry.:sad

I believe I know of what you speak.....

But here's the qualifier: If one sets out to win a war then it should be swift and sure. It's a mind-set, to be sure and is the very reason that Washington has no business dictating how it's generals deliver the goods.....UNLESS of course the whole idea isn't to win the war in a manner that is most humane by a swift ferocity in order to bring it to it's conclusion....AND with us as the conqueror.

I was thinking about the situation faced by Marcus Luttrell and his SEAL team in Afghanistan....All members of his team died because a decision was made to spare the lives of passing Afghani goat herders; who happened to stumble upon the teams position. The goat-herders squealed.

Marcus entered a zone of gray...."do I spare their lives and put my men at risk or...do I kill these Afghanis who may say nothing at all to the enemy Talibani?"

War is raw and it's BRUTAL.

Are we morally superior when we demand our soldiers pull their punches, hoping to spare every innocent, based on a prayer they MAY be innocent?

Only to see our own slaughtered? This is why moral equivalencies and shades of gray have no valid existence on a battlefield.....
