I think the avatar size on this website is way too small. I can send you screenshots of other posting boards where the administration team set the avatar size to be larger. Not sure why its small here. I upload the same image.
Thanks,
John

Large avatars are resource hungry.

Your avatar can be 100x100 pixels. We don't allow larger avatars as they take up more room on the server and slow the board down. Some people want avatars 300x400. :doh :twitch We have to find a suitable medium, which is why 100x100 is set. Your current avatar is only 40x50. I'd try making it bigger. :hat

I belong to an art website, and the forum avatars there are even smaller.
I think RR avatars are just fine! :nod

How do I change it? I linked to this image (http://www.cerm.info/CERM_files/biblejohn.jpg) and it scales it down. Why?

I would agree if I can get mine to 100x100 pixels.

That image is 90x112 - Try resizing at the source and then copy it in.

Oh bother. This means using an image editing program? I thought the software here would do that for me, as what is done on some other websites. Its okay thanks for your help.

I dont use Windows and if I did need to edit it I would use preview, graphic converter or iphoto. I will give this website a suggestion for improvement for not auto setting it for me on the fly. I think you will find that very few are going to spend the time to adjust it themselves.
About this business of the graphic taking longer to load if its larger. That may because you have limited bandwidth or something going on. I am on some websites that allow a larger avatar and I hardly notice a difference in speed. One thing that slows us down is the Vbulletin software. Howver Vbulletin has more features than some other websites that load faster that I am on. But there are reasons why not all websites employee the form software rapture ready uses.
