The Vatican's Chief Astronomer says Intelligent Design is not Science

The Director of the Vatican Observatory, George Coyne, said recently that Intelligent Design is not science and it does not belong in the science classroom. He added that Intelligent Design pretends to be science, but it is not science.
The Vatican's Chief Astronomer said that placing the Intelligent Design Theory alongside Evolution in school programs was wrong and was akin to mixing apples with oranges. Coyne's statements are in line with other critics of Intelligent Design who say it's merely Creationism, a literal reading of the Bible's story of Creation, camouflaged in scientific language.
Jimmy's Prophetic Prospective on the News
Officials from the world's largest religious group declaring that Intelligent Design is Creationism camouflaged as science is a precursor to the time when Jesus Christ will return, that is according to Bible prophecy. The debate over the moves by public officials wanting to place the teaching of Intelligent Design in public schools has reached a level of great intensity.
this doesn't suprise me one bit. :doh

I'm not surprised either. Most Catholics don't believe it's "GOD's Word". Most Catholics also believe that even good people go to heaven....

We need to be careful. One day intelligent design might mean "aliens seeded the planet and wrote the bible!"
Just my guess at the great delusion of the tribulation;)

Even though I'm not crazy about the whole 'intelligent design' label (because I think it reaks of appeasement, why not say creationism) I'm not suprised by more pronouncements on high from the Vatican.
I guess the 'infallible' Ratzinger had a good reason to be a member of the Hitler youth, I'm sure he really loves the Jewish people.

Excerpts:
Intelligent Design belittles God, Vatican director says
By Mark Lombard

Catholic Online (www.catholic.org)
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Catholic Online) -- Intelligent Design reduces and belittles God’s power and might, according to the director of the Vatican Observatory.
VATICAN OBSERVATORY DIRECTOR SPEAKS ON EVOLUTION – Jesuit Father George V. Coyne, director of the Vatican Observatory, is pictured in a 1996 file photo in Washington. In a Jan. 31 West Palm Beach, Fla., talk, Father Coyne says that Christianity is “radically creationist,” though the theory of Intelligent Design reduces and belittles God. (CNS photo)
Science is and should be seen as “completely neutral” on the issue of the theistic or atheistic implications of scientific results, says Father George V. Coyne, director of the Vatican Observatory, while noting that “science and religion are totally separate pursuits.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christianity is “radically creationist,” Father George V. Coyne said, but it is not best described by the “crude creationism” of the fundamental, literal, scientific interpretation of Genesis or by the Newtonian dictatorial God who makes the universe tick along like a watch. Rather, he stresses, God acts as a parent toward the universe, nurturing, encouraging and working with it.
In his remarks, he also criticizes the cardinal archbishop of Vienna’s support for Intelligent Design and notes that Pope John Paul’s declaration that “evolution is no longer a mere hypothesis” is “a fundamental church teaching” which advances the evolutionary debate.
He calls “mistaken” the belief that the Bible should be used “as a source of scientific knowledge,” which then serves to “unduly complicate the debate over evolution.”

Yes, this was quite an old article, but Jimmy just picked up on it I guess.
The Bible says that simply looking at creation one knows there is a God, and this fact is enough to condemn you but cannot save you.
How is it then that men who take a vow of chastity in order to devote themselves to God, can't even see the very Creation that God talked about?
There must be a terrible inner struggle going on inside them.

I never read intelligent design
i don't not need a theory one way or another
Genesis is clear about where we came from, and one day God will tell us what we need to know
