Um... I may be misguided, but its been pretty widely reported that our own government is also pushing a soft dollar policy. As a means of bringing our exports inline with other countries and forcing other countries to raise the value of their currencies.

While we could debate the argument of, Hal's ignoring that most analyst have a different correlation of the declining dollar and our economy. As in a soft dollar policy is good for our economy, albeit being a perilous game to play.

As for many countries widely moving their reserve currencies away from the Euro. While we could state that its a fundamental attack on America, it could also be... simply economic incentives at work. Can you really expect other countries to place Americas interest ahead of theirs? They can't really divest fully, but wouldn't you in a similiar comparison; reduce your holdings in a stock that you KNOW is going to lose value?

As far as China's hold of American reserve notes being akin to a dagger at our throats. Sure, its true to an extent. But its a position we've knowingly embraced. China floods our bond market allowing us to take on debt cheaply, financing our economy, wars, etc.. while at the same time tieing our economies together so implicitly that China now has an incentive to keep Americas economy afloat! As we've witnessed with their own reserve banks statments, of knowingly buying bad American debt at times to keep our economy going.
