Patti-- this is what I was thinking of......
My brain was on 4th grade language arts at the time (really why do we need to know what an adjective is...)
Well then....maybe I AM a computer whiz.....:aha Now that's a scary thought :fear
Glad I could maybe help :wave

Thanks for all the advice ya'll. I'm at work right now, but when I get home later tonight, I'm gonna try to work on the laptop. I'll let you know what happens. Hopefully something will work!

Keep updating the lavasoft and trying it. They may be working on a fix. Possibly even send them a link to what you downloaded and ask them to work on a fix. They will likely do that, after all that is what they do.

HiJackthis, as Buzz suggested is good, but will only list all the stuff that is running on your PC. You will more than likely have to upload the log file to their website and let other more knowledgable peeps point out what is offending, and how to get rid of it.
Copy and paste your log file here or at http://www.hijackthis.de/
That will show you what is good and what is bad without having to wait on anyone.

Does somebody know how to do this?
Try uninstalling the codex? Maybe virus and spyware scanners don't detect it because it isn't that. I installed a codex one time that caused some pop-ups and scanners didn't see anything wrong, so I uninstalled the codex using the provided uninstaller and the problem went away.

Yes, you may be able to uninstall it from your Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
I didn't really find any problems in your Hijack log, some of those dll files might be suspicious
I would remove a lot of lines in that log just because they take up CPU and memory
